We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe J. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I have two favs right now: “Mind your business” is my recent fav because it reminds me not to give away my energy to things that are out of my control and do not concern me- other peoples business, worries, fears and especially the what and why’s of life so that I surrender to God’s will. This quote from Lucille Clifton’s poem “won’t you celebrate with me” has stayed with me since forever because it reminds me that every challenge I have faced in this life I have overcome and that is enough cause to celebrate: “Come celebrate with me that everyday something has tried to kill me and has failed.”
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think what sets Yeaux Mama apart from other brands is the fact that it simply represents me- this unique Black woman. And because this manifests in the designs we create, other Black women feel seen. This gives our audience a personal, not ‘popular’ or ‘trendy’, experience. We want what the world considers “ordinary” women to be celebrated and given their flowers while they’re here as well as our ancestors.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Monday- Spelman Museum then get Slutty Vegan out the way Tuesday- Pretty Little Taco too, then the Rosebar Wednesday- Wild Out Wednesday taping or recover from Rosebar Thursday- TGS for networking then pizza night at Slim & Husky’s Friday- Grab a kale wrap from Tassili’s and hit the Westside Beltline Trail Saturday- Day party at Oak Sunday- Brunch at Breakfast at Barneys
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people who take the time to support in small and big ways, my fam and friends and The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.
