We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Njambe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well, I got the idea from my mother. She is from Cameroon & has been braiding for over 30 years. She’s also owned three of her own braiding shops & has helped me with everything. I grew up watching her be successful & wanted the same for me so I decided to follow in her steps. It’s honestly been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I have learned a lot about myself (personally and professionally) through this journey. My shop also has recently celebrated its 1 year anniversary !

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a braiding salon. I have multiple braiders that come with years worth of expertise for almost any braiding style. We pride ourselves on providing quality service to each customer.

I got here by being resilient. Opening a braiding salon in the middle of the pandemic wasn’t easy. I had to implement ways that could help the business grow. A lot of scarifies were made to achieve the little success that we have now.

I learned to never give up. There’s always a solution somewhere. You just have to learn & adapt to the circumstances.

I want the world to know that everything that’s done here is done with love. We want each client to feel great & look even better. No client is ever turned down.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d say midtown would be the best place to visit. There’s a lot of creative things to do for entertainment. There’s also a lot of restaurants that offer great drinks & food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out is to my mother. She’s my partner with Braids Galore & Salon. She has taught me everything that I know. She has helped gain confidence in myself to pursue great opportunities. I’ve learned a lot through her & hope that I’m making her proud.
