We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantel Turk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chantel, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Growing up I was heavily focused on the needs of others while disregarding my own. I poured love into others hoping they would do the same in return which often didn’t happen. After a terrible break up I had an epiphany to remove all sources of toxic energy from my life. I was left with thoughts like “you will never be good enough,” and “you don’t deserve happiness.” Those thoughts bled into all parts of my life including dance, work, and other interpersonal relationships. Something had to give! I started to pour the love I had been giving away to undeserving people and situations into myself first and that’s when everything changed. It’s taken years of positive affirmations, meditation, journaling and putting myself first to become the Self Love Goddess that I am today.

She Got Love was born to guide other women into their own self-love, self-care and self-respect journey. Our dance classes, self-love trainings and events are curated to facilitate the process of radical self-love. I truly believe that when you practice self-love, set appropriate boundaries and are surrounded by positive vibes you will thrive at any and everything you desire.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
She Got Love is dedicated to serve humanity by providing dance classes, self-love workshops and events curated to facilitate the journey of radical self-love.

Many things set us apart but a huge one is our approach to dance. Our class Femme Jazz Funk (FJF) is a holistic dance experience designed for dance lovers of all levels. Whether you are new or you’ve been dancing for years, FJF is a safe learning environment for you! It’s packed with fun dance moves, self love affirmations and intentional warmups/cooldowns to honor the woman’s body.

I’m most excited about our monthly uplifting event called Self Love Celebration. It’s coming up on our one year anniversary in a couple months and it feels unreal to me! Self Love Celebration is filled with self-love practices such as journaling, meditation, positive affirmation, dance and more! It’s the perfect blend of Sunday Funday meets Sunday Self-Care; inspired by the church format minus the religious aspect. We’ve recently made some changes to the structure to make it even more fun, engaging and uplifting for our attendees!

Building She Got Love has not been easy by any means. It’s taken tons of self-growth. If I hadn’t taken the time to heal myself I wouldn’t have gained the courage to put myself out there. I’ve hit many blocks but I am dedicated to moving forward even through fear. I have adopted self-soothing tools that get me through the tough parts. Keeping my spirit full is essential so I listen to inspirational coaches like Les Brown and Lisa Nichols almost daily. I follow other inspiring life journeys like Shameless Maya and Shan Boody to remind me that my dreams are possible. All of this is essential for my creativity which keeps me going as a business owner.

One of my biggest lessons as a business owner is compassion. Talking to myself like how I would a friend when they’ve made a mistake has been LIFE CHANGING. I used to beat myself up during the learning process but since committing to compassion I’ve embodied the word. These are the same intentions I have with the Honeybees of She Got Love. I want each of them to embody the fact that they deserve love and compassion in every facet of their life. Periodt.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay friend, so we have a pretty lit agenda for the week. Hope you’re ready! On Saturday morning we’ll get up early and head to the farmers market. They have tons of wholesome locally grown foods to choose from. I recommend the locally caught Salmon with ciabatta bread.

Sunday we’ll start at Atlanta Breakfast Club near the Hotel District. I have reservations to avoid the long wait. They have amazing shrimp n’ grits, waffles and of course Mimosas. The food is mouth watering. Next we’ll need to walk off our breakfast on the Atlanta BeltLine trails and see the beautiful scenery. Plus if we want to stop for a drink or ice cream theres a chain of restaurants down the trail as well!

On Monday morning we’ll head over to Morningside Nature trails for a nice hike. I know you love nature! After that we’ll treat ourselves and stop over at Slutty Vegan. Since it’ll be your first time you’ll be in for a treat! Their food is 100% vegan and sinfully delicious. Then it’s off to the Trap Museum for a tour, drinks, music and vibes. Don’t forget to buy some merch on the way out.

Tuesday we will go to the Mall of Georgia to buy outfits for the night. Don’t worry there’s plenty of restaurants we can eat at while we shop. Tuesday night we’re off to Traffik Club and Kitchen for Tacos and Tequila. They have $2 shots and $3 tacos plus good music and chill vibes.

Wednesday we will sleep in and make our own breakfast with the groceries we bought at the farmers market. Around 8pm we’ll head over to Cascade to skate and take some pictures. I’ve never been there either so this will be a new experience for us both. Hope you enjoyed your trip!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man, this question is tough! There were so many people that deserve recognition in my journey. I have to start by giving thanks to The Divine, or what most would call, God. My spiritual connection has grown immensely over the years. It’s helped me put things into perspective and guided me through the trenches of hardship during this process.

My parents have always been my #1 fans. Though I’ve ventured on this journey independent of their everyday wisdom, they’ve instilled the values and tools I need to keep going in the face of adversity. Mom used to tell me as a kid “No question, no doubt,” it’s because of her that I never give up. My Dad has taught me patience, empathy and given me his impeccable organizational skills. I love and appreciate them both.

My closest friends are my biggest cheerleaders when it comes to my business. During the times that I struggle to keep going or doubt myself, I can always call one of them and get inspiration to keep pushing. Ya’ll know who you are–shoutout to you!

I must give recognition to my dance mentor Stacy “DHQ Jukeboxx” Letrice for taking me under her wing after leaving a toxic dance environment. She showed me that it is possible to do what you’re passionate about and make a living out of it. She’s expanded my dance vocabulary and brought awareness to issues I’d been neglecting from past injuries and traumas during my time as a competitive gymnast. I appreciate the time and attention she put into my growth.

I have an amazing business partnership with Yes Moms and TAPhelps who play a huge role in the development of my business. They encourage me and have helped me develop She Got Love into the comprehensive business that it is today.

Last but not least I have to shoutout my partner who has helped me during the grassroots phase of my business. David has kept me focused when I get stuck in self-doubt and plays a huge role in building up my dance classes. I appreciate how he supports me and She Got Love every step of the way!
