We had the good fortune of connecting with CASUAL DEATH and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CASUAL, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
If it’s something you are passionate about I think the simple answer is to never give up. It’s a little more complicated than that in the real world though. Sometimes you may just need to give up for a day if you’re not feeling it and rest your brain for next time. Sometimes we undervalue the small bits of progress we make day to day that got us to where we are and I think it’s important for everyone to reflect and pat themselves on the back for what you are able to accomplish no matter how small.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a dubstep producer under the name CASUAL DEATH and I typically produce and DJ dubstep shows along with some stage managing and audio engineering work here and there.

I typically play experimental and heavier tracks in my sets and have been evolving over time to find a sound and style I really vibe with. I have been doing music all of my life but started CASUAL DEATH initially as a vaporware project at the end of 2017 although I eventually changed it up to be more dubstep oriented in recent years.

I would say what sets me apart from others would be just throwing my unique style and background on everything, I play a lot of my own tracks out and am always working on something new so people have something to look forward to when they come to one of my shows. I was in several bands back in the day and took a lot of that musical knowledge into the dubstep world.

The journey has not been easy and there is a lot of self doubt and mental health issues that I think plague artists in general but it is very rewarding to see long hours paying off when everyone in the club starts cheering and jumping. I am always trying to improve and find that balance between making music and also experiencing what life has to offer. It’s easier said than done.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man there is so much to do in this city haha. First off my favorite place to eat is Grindhouse so that’s a must. I currently stay in L5P and I love it so I would definitely shop and eat at as many places possible here (Shoutout Vortex and Psycho Sisters) I am typically at Believe music hall on the weekends checking out the latest DJs and Producers swinging through from all over and Arcadia after hours if I need to keep the party going.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to anyone who has ever had a positive impact in my life and there are a lot you! I could go on for days about the positivity I have encountered in the local dubstep/edm scene here. If you are reading this right now then you are exactly the person I am dedicating this to and I really appreciate you.
