We had the good fortune of connecting with Cam Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cam, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I really love candles but I had a hard time finding some that REALLY did it for me so that began the process of me making them myself. I would always have people come over and ask where I got my candles from and wanted to buy them from me so that kind of jump started the idea. I wanted to be able to provide people with quality candles that were safe to burn but smelled amazing.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to refer to myself as a creative because essentially that’s what my line of work makes me. It’s one thing to have a business, but I AM the business. I hand craft all of my products myself. I have taken marketing classes, learning how I wanted to brand myself, everything that you see companies go through, I’ve had to learn to navigate by myself as a one man band. The road has been anything but easy and so many times, like other business owners before me, I’ve thought about giving up but I just couldn’t let myself and those who believe in me down. Anyone can go to the store and buy a candle off the shelf and there’s nothing wrong with those, but I pride myself on putting TLC and effort and true dedication into crafting each one by hand. I got to where I am today because my customers can tell the amount of love I pour into my candles. I’ve, of course, experienced plenty of trials and error and when I want to give up I remember all the conversations with my best friends and how encouraging they’ve been and I know that no real success has come easy. What a lot of people don’t realize is that not all candles are created equally. It is truly a science behind it. The type of wax, the wick, the vessel, even down to the proportions and pouring temperatures all play a part in making the best smelling candles. We’ve taken the time to perfect each aspect of that science and bring the best smelling candle we can.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That is a hard question! I can be super adventurous some days and other I just want to kick back and have a good time. One of my favorite places to grab a bite is this bar called Da Bomb in Lithonia. I like a good strong drink every now and then and they definitely have them. My absolute favorite drink spot is Benchwarmers Sports Grill in Stockbridge! There’s so many different flavors there and the vibes are always on point. Now there’s no way I would let my friends leave without having a dinner at Morton’s Steakhouse. I only recently discovered it, and it’s a little on the pricey side, but sooo worth it! We 100% have to go to the Ubar on Camp Creek. Good drinks, good food, and always a good time. We’re definitely going to be live there. I could go on and on. Oh! I almost forgot about Top Golf. I’m no golfer by far, but you’re definitely going to have a great time if you go with the right people. I wouldn’t be myself if we didn’t have a night of just chilling in the house with some laughs, good vibes, listening to music and of course deep conversation because we have to get into the topics.I have different groups of friends that have different ideas of having fun so it really just depends on what they’re into.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe my success to my best friend of almost 15 years Simone. She was the first person I knew to jump on this crazy train we call entrepreneurship. She has been my main motivator, support system and inspiration. Watching the dedication she’s put into her business has inspired me to keep pushing and finding new ways to be better than I was yesterday. My best friend Demonte who basically bought out all of my products on my launch day and has invested so much into my dream, my partner for being there for me when the stress almost overcame me, and of course my mother who essentially gave me the idea to start this company all deserve credit for all that my company has become. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them. I love you guys.
