We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Santizo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a daughter of parents who have owned a very successful engineering firm in Marietta, Georgia, business ownership has always been a goal of mine. The timing to open my practice in 2021 may not have been ideal — as I am expecting my second child this year — but I am convinced that the timing is never perfect.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own one of the few Nurse Practitioner owned medical practices in the state of Georgia. After 21 years in healthcare and networking with some of the best colleagues you could ask for, I opened West Forsyth Internal Medicine, P.C. in September 2021. My road has certainly been a windy one, but my story definitely proves God always has a plan for each of us. The freedom of owning my own business has been refreshing. The pandemic has certainly changed many aspects of all of our lives. I am grateful to now have an opportunity to provide un-rushed patient care while having the freedom to still be a wife and mom.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
While I have lived outside of the perimeter, on the north side of Atlanta since 1988, my experiences are limited in the heart of our beautiful city. I would make sure to include a trip to the Vortex for a burger, the Varsity, Avalon, Halcyon, Fogo de Chao, and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Some of my favorite activities include time on Lake Lanier, concerts, sporting events, the Georgia Aquarium, and several local hikes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, my family deserves the first bit of recognition in my story. My amazing husband, and COO of the business, has been nothing but supportive of my endeavors since day one. He has had to deal with me being pregnant and opening a new business all in the same year, someone give this man an award! To my parents that have been incredible examples as successful, honest, and God-centered business owners, thank you for all you have done for me and my family. I would have never had the courage to go out on my own without seeing your example.

After working with Liz Gomez at a previous practice several years ago, my sweet friend has been instrumental and helping my dreams come true with this business. As my practice manager, Liz brings and unmatched skill set including: practice management, medical assistant skills, and Spanish medical interpretation. I cannot wait to watch this business grow and work shoulder to shoulder with this amazing woman.

Another precious friend of mine, Amy Jo Wright with Amy Jo Photography is next on my shoutout list. I have watched this woman operate an impressively successful photography business for the last 8 years now. Her business insight, friendship, and constant inspiration has been incredible. I love our friendship and the support we are able to provide each other as mothers and business owners. Thank you for everything you do for me and my family!

My patients and friends have been some of the most supportive people I have ever met. In the few short months we have been open, I have been even busier than I could have ever dreamed of! I cannot even begin to thank each of you for the social media tagging and networking that you continue to do for me every day. I am so unworthy!

To my medical director, Dr. Stephen Crabtree, thank you for trusting me to run this practice. I cannot even begin to put into words how much I appreciate you (and your wife) for being open to providing your leadership and guidance. I thank God daily for the people in both of our lives that caused our paths to cross!

To the woman who was scanning my newly pregnant belly in Spring of 2021 and convinced me into opening my practice despite me being pregnant, thank you Lauren Reyes! Watching you own 4 of your own businesses as a mother of FIVE beautiful children has been nothing short of inspirational. I am so grateful for our friendship and your business insight. This is a superstar here if you have not met her, she owns: a 3D Ultrasound studi0 (First Impressions 3D Ultrasound), two boutiques (King’s Kids Boutique & Roxy Moxy Boutique), and a wholesale company (ELLEavate Wholesale)!

Julie Black, owner of SayYes (an unparalleled weight loss program with a unique combination of education, accountability, and support), is most definitely worthy of my next shout out. Without her even knowing of my dreams to open my own practice, she asked for me to provide some medical insight in some podcasts and video chats for her program this year. I am forever grateful for allowing me to be a part of your team. So many of the people going through your program have now become some of my favorite patients! Thank you for all you do for me!!!

Several colleagues including another business owning nurse practitioner, Jody Amazon, have provided me with more guidance and support than I could dream of. From endless phone conversations to free exam tables and yummy treats on my opening day, thank you for your support! You are irreplaceable and I’m so thankful our paths have crossed!

My last and most important recognition goes to God. God is my reason for everything. God is the reason I’m alive, He is the reason have my passion to take care of people, and the reason I had the courage to start my own business. God has worked in mysterious ways in my life over the last several years, and watching everything piece together at this point of my life brings tears to my eyes.
