We had the good fortune of connecting with Britney Chandler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britney, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I truly believe risk taking has played a major role in my life. I wouldn’t have moved to a new city or have meet new people without a little risk taking. A few years back I was offered a part time job in a city I wanted to live in. It was a risky decision. I had a full time job, part time job, and family in the city I was already living in, but I felt something pulling me. I felt I needed a more creative atmosphere and although it was risky to leave everything behind and take the part time position, I took the risk. It ended up being a great decision and I now have a full time position with that company. You never know until you take that first leap.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
On my bucket list, which might seem odd, I had written that I wanted to be a Professor by the age of 50. Through hard work and God given opportunity, I can now cross that off the list! I am very humble…I did not see that coming. I am a Communications Professor and it’s a pleasure and honor to teach a subject that I know students will always use and need. The journey to this profession started by me working in a testing center at a college and getting promoted through determination and achieving goals. Though teaching is enjoyable, I am excited for the day I become a full time writer. I just published my first fiction novel last year and it was one of the scariest and most exciting things I’ve ever done. It was a tall task and at times I felt that it would never happen but between tears and a good support system..it got done! I’ve learned so much in the last five years. I’ve had so much growth and I’m not been boastful when I say that…I truly see it in myself. I learn that you really can reach your dreams if you put in the work. Also, that everyone will not support you and you have to be strong enough to be okay with that. And those are just a few gems I’ve picked up a long the way. I want people to know that someone is waiting on the gift that you possess. Someone is waiting on your song, your speech, your painting; they are waiting on you. Do it afraid! The BritneyCharmaine brand is all about encouraging others to pursue their passions and to embrace everything that makes you your unique self.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people to shout out for recognition of helping me get to where I am. First, I have to thank God for allowing me to live this life and blessing me with opportunities and grace. Second, my family has always been there for me to encourage, uplift and offer advice. Third my friends, some old, some new who check on me, come to my events, travel and celebrate with me; you all mean so much to me and I’m glad you all are only a call away. Last but not least, I am thankful for my boyfriend, who always encourages me to strive for my goals and dreams. Glad I’m able to do life with you. Though there are too many people to thank by name, I’m so thankful to have such a wonderful support system.
