We had the good fortune of connecting with Breanna Bennett | EmpresSoulfull and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breanna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My love for the visual & performing Arts started since I was a little girl growing up. It all started with journal pages filled with water paint swatches, and a strong liking for stage plays on TV. Usually I’d snuck in my school’s auditorium after class to recite & reenact my favorite folklore. I’ve always participated in theatre plays & choirs which I’ve had the opportunity to perform on the big stages in Jamaica. I become an artist with my mind and those thoughts become art. It’s enlightening when people get to experience this. Whether it’s on canvas or in person, I truly enjoy the gift of sharing my talent, and inspiring the younger generation.
Though still in the process of starting my business, and marketing my brand as a creative talent, I’m still developing my artistry.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In 2016 I attended the New York Jazz Academy (NYJA) & completed rigorous training in vocals & performance . It was certainly rewarding in the end. I’ve had opportunity to collaborate with great musicians in the industry. I’m definitely inspired by my culture, & my love for reggae music. One of my fond memories was my first live ensemble at the “Somthin’ Jazz” club in Manhattan.

As the pandemic hit I was forced to redirect my business online, & worked a corporate job. During this time I’ve managed to regain my love for acting by creating videos on social media. I have faced many challenges with balancing work/life, especially creating videos for content- I must say keeping up with trends isn’t easy haha. But I love when my supporters tell me how my videos make them feel. This of course help me stay motivated & to never be discouraged.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I reside in New York, so there are always fun & exciting activities to experience in the city! I’d probably take my best friend to the Painting Lounge in Harlem where we could sip n paint, then get food at one of my favorite restaurants, Corner Social- their lobster Mac n cheese is a must try! Afterwards we’d grab a few drinks at Silvana in the day/night time either way it’s a vibe. Then I’d imagine to stop by the karaoke bars in China Town. To keep it groovy, I’d end the night with smooth live jazz music at Coby Club in Chelsea… an entire day or week well spent.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big up to my parents & siblings for always believing in me! They definitely play an important role as I start my journey as an “Artrepreneur” My siblings certainly gave me a head start to sell my creations in their store. My brother especially would assist with setting up my designs. They’ve also given me the opportunity to work backstage at fashion shows including NYFW.
