We had the good fortune of connecting with Bilgah Moka and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bilgah, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
There is inspiration everywhere being a bridal hairstylist; from beautifully photographed styled shoots to New York Bridal Fashion Week and more, but I’m most inspired by my passion for serving. I love my brides, they are trusting me on one of the most monumental days of their lives, and the events leading up to it. Being one of their chosen vendors is so special; the ability and opportunity to beautify them, and to be of service while setting the tone for the rest of their day is truly an honor.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a licensed master cosmetologist for over 12 years and had the honor of helping brides display their love stories for eight years now. My work is tailored to the classic bride: the one who has a great love for her family and appreciates quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. When I style a bride’s hair, my goal is to reveal her love story through adornment in a way that feels honest and authentic to her, that’s a momentous responsibility and one that I do not take lightly. I truly treat them like family. make sure to express my gratitude to them for choosing me as their hairstylist and I attentively listen to their needs and desires and collaboratively create something beautiful.
I got to where I am by connecting with other very talented beauty creatives, having faith in my talents and abilities, and trusting the Lord with my next steps. This industry is competitive, you have to know who you are, your brand has to be true and you need to find authentic ways to resonate with your brides. Building and staying involved within the bridal and wedding community is essential and sometimes difficult; loyalties dissolve, betrayal can happen and people simply go in different directions, but to overcome some of these obstacles, you have to surround yourself with genuine people, those who want to see you win and check in with you during the off-season. You have to consistently remind yourself of your worth, keep reaching and setting new goals, and stay focused.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is a busy place, and hustlers live here. There’s always something new happening whether it’s a pop-up shop or a new restaurant…people are always coming and going.

I’d rather not get stuck in traffic, that’s almost inevitable…but I love a great cocktail and well-executed food, There’s so much to explore here and it seems like you’d never catch up, but I have Bacchanalia, Canoe, and Carmel on the list; we’d be chasing those spots.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to acknowledge my family. They are always incredibly supportive of all of my creative endeavors and each respectfully give me great advice and listening ears when things sometimes get tough.
