We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becky, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always loved music, singing, comedy, acting. I’ve studied voice with some amazing voice teachers Tamara Anderson, Jeffrey Morrow, Randy Buescher, Andrew Schultze, I took acting classes in high school Highland Park High School and did their summer theatre program in the late 90s, did choir from elementary school, middle school, high school and college. I got my degree from Columbia College Chicago class of 2007. When I was a college student in 2003 and 2004 i was involved with About Face Youth Theatre as an actor and in 2004 they gave me an internship summer of 2004 so I got to learn the business side. 2017 I was in a adult band at School of Rock in Libertyville and took voice lessons there and I loved it. I ended up moving to South Carolina in 2018 so now I’m taking lessons at Bach to Rock and just did a showcase. I love performing at open mics, writing songs, playing keyboard. I learned the keyboard in college fall 2004 but I’ve been taking lessons for 6 years. I also studied improv at Columbia college Chicago, Improv Playhouse in Highland Park and Libertyville, Theatre99 in Charleston and online through Front Porch Theatre. have a youtube.com/sing19821 reverbnation.com/becky97 and soundcloud.com/becky-raisman. I remember when I was in college I recorded at Studio Chicago (now closed) fast forward to 2019 I recorded at Charleston Sound Studios in Charleston, SC, 2020 I recorded at Omnisound Studios in Nashville, 2021 I booked a session at 4U Studios in Memphis in May.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been in many singing contests, I also beat box, I make beats with my mouth, I show passion, I take lessons, I save up my money for recording, promotions, lessons, im proud to get my college degree from Columbia College Chicago alumni class of 2007, it took me 6 years but I did it. I’ve done open mics, I’ve tried out for the Voice, America Got Talent, American Idol but got turned down. That sucks the rejection but you got to have tough skin. I keep pushing myself to keep going. I’ve been in many blogs, music digital music magazines so I’m doing something right. In 2009 I worked as a camp counselor called Camp Jam in Lake Forest, IL at Lake Forest Academy that was one of the best experiences in my life. I even got to meet Jim Peterik from the band Survivor he wrote the song Eye of the Tiger, Christine Ohlman she is the guitar player on Saturday Night Live, and Liberty Devitto he played drums for Billy Joel. 2010 and 2011 I sang at open mics with Paul Allodi at Timothy O’tooles in Gurnee, IL and a women who i went to Highland Park High School with she graduated two years before me who owns Silk Thumb convinced me to perform in Highland Park Got Talent during the Highland Park sude walk sale and she was one of the judges so I signed up and sang. 2011 i got to perform for Chick Singers Night at Abbey Pub. 2017 I started getting back in the open mic scene with Chris Sipos at Green Town Tavern Listen to my music reverbnation.com/becky97 Soundcloud.com/becky-raisman Youtube.com/sing19821
