We had the good fortune of connecting with Bebe Simone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bebe Simone, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has definitely changed since I have started working for myself. When I first began to work for myself I would work 7 days a week with minimal rest time. I wanted to practice more on my craft and services, by accepting pretty much every appointment. At some point, I realized that I was overworking myself and did not have the time I had before to be huge part of my daughter’s life. That became a problem and then I knew I had to prioritize my life and work because of my daughter. When I think about balance, I think about my health, my daughter, and my personal time. Those things are the most important to me that allow me to continue to work efficiently. I had to balance my work life with my personal goals as well. If I am not in good health, I can’t service my clients to the best of my ability.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am super proud of myself for stepping out on faith. I have been braiding for years, but never put myself out there to do others hair. I only did hair for my close friends and family. Since covid-19, I have found so many ways to express my creativeness and to figure out what I truly love. It was definitely not easy getting to where I am today. It took work and long hours to get to a place where I felt like I succeeded. Challenges came daily, but I knew at the end that this is something I love to do. I love to make people happy, even if its through their hair. I believe this is my purpose in life. I’ve learned that you will not and cannot please everyone. I learned through many clients, that whoever is for you, will be for you. I couldn’t sweat the mistakes, but I recognized them, learned from them, and continued my craft. I decided to be great at what I do, and stopped comparing myself to other stylists. Over time, I became better at my craft. The world should know that Bebe Simone is not just a braider or Natural hair Care specialist, I am a creative, master of MY craft, and simply a healer of hair.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the city of Charlotte, I would definitely take her to some brunch spots. We would definitely visit a couple of restaurants, which is my favorite thing to do. I don’t do much nightlife, but there are plenty of bars and lounges to visit here. During my down time, I am usually exploring nature or traveling. Charlotte is a very exciting place and has so much to offer. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my parents and my siblings for supporting me with all my goals. I don’t think this would have happened without them. Shoutout to my close friends for motivating me to keep going with my business. Special shoutout to Diarra Durmonay, who took a chance on me and welcomed me in her salon. So many others that have supported me and gave encouraging words to keep me on my path, I greatly appreciate everyone.
