Meet Ayo McKerson | Owner of Always Reliable Junk Removal

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayo McKerson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ayo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After purchasing my first box truck in 2020 to originally move freight, I switched courses to do junk removal when rates continued to drop for freight during the beginning of the Pandemic. I got the idea from my college roommate at Albany State University. His brother owns a junk removal company in Metro Atlanta. I wanted to start a Junk Removal Company that provided affordable prices and great customer service.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Over the past 14 years I’ve held many corporate positions from retail management to healthcare management. These positions have provided me with the skills needed to be successful as an entrepreneur. After 14 years I was furloughed due to CoVID which allowed me to focus on building Always Reliable Junk Removal. The biggest thing that I’ve learned is that with any business doing your research and planning is key. There where so many unknowns that I had to figure out which ultimately became very costly for me. The road to success has not been easy and I am still learning more and more about the industry every day. Advice that i would give anyone who is thinking about jumping into Junk Removal is to make sure you build great relationships with collogues.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When entertaining guest one of my favorite spots to visit in Atlanta is STK. I believe they have the best steak selection in Atlanta. After STK I usually like to walk the BeltLine to Piedmont park where you can get drinks from nearby restaurants and just enjoy the great outdoors.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely would like to shout out my business partner Kurtis Davis who has allowed me to take my vision of building Always Reliable Junk Removal to the next level. He trusted in my vision and allowed me to stop focusing on freight and go in a new direction without any question. My wife has been a huge supporter of my vision as well. Without her support Always Reliable Junk Removal would not be here today.
