We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayanna Shon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ayanna, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I will definitely credit the power of my God, my mom and my faith as being the driving forces to my success. I know these are by far the reasons I have been able to walk in my reaping season, after spending years of sowing seeds in my craft.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Ayanna later discovered her passion behind the scenes and branded herself as a celeb photographer working with many national and independent recording artists, actresses and actors. In 2015, Ayanna Shon launched CBA film studio in her home town, a full service production company focused on creating original content with a drive focused in short films and green screen music video production. While quarantined Ayanna’s began a unique and gritty feel to the world of “Filmmakers Podcast” embracing the hip hop culture and urban scene with tremendous flair on her youtube channel. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I enjoy the more relaxed atmospheres these days, we would definitely check out a show at the Encore which is the only black-owned theatre in Birmingham and for drinks my go to spot is a nice cozy black-owned cafe “Bizarre” which is on the same street as CBA Film Studios.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will have to shoutout my mom and grandmothers for teaching me I can do all things and become whomever, I picture myself becoming. I wasn’t raised to set limitations nor to think “realistically” and for that I am grateful. They all encouraged and critiqued in love with each endeavor I’ve taken. I have an amazing support system in which I started my family based film production company, where I am blessed to have my uncle, nephews and younger brother work aside me on set. As a teen I began to observe and study theatre, storytelling and directing talent first hand from my eldest playwright /director brother Marc. Last but not least, I have one particular cousin I am able to call whenever I am needing a spark of creative inspiration, as she’s consistently chasing the next adventure and always have a story to share when we catch up.
