We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Spears and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to start a business of things that I love. Cosmetics was not my first pick. I originally wanted to start a daycare. That was always my dream. I knew that would take time. I kept getting asked what I used on my lips to make them look full (my lips are naturally this way). Then I had people tell me, “every time I see you your lips are so glossy (that’s because I put on lipgloss every hour). Every time I went into a store I was buying lipgloss. One day I went online and started researching how to make it and I was tuned in. My thought process behind starting my own business was an extra income for my household and selling things I am familiar with and what I love. I love lipgloss and I have at least one lipgloss everywhere.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Saditty Avenue is a cosmetic business. I sell handmade body butter, handmade lipgloss, and will be adding more items soon. When I first thought of the idea I just thought about having an extra income to support me and my boys. I am a single mother of three boys and trust me it’s very hard. I have struggled and I was always looking for a way to help myself and continue to be able to provide for my family. I was always told how pretty my lips were. I have even been asked do I use lip plumpers. My lips just naturally look this way. Every time you see me my lips are always glossy I have to always have my lipgloss. So one day I decided to get on Youtube and watch videos on how to make lipgloss and how to start my own business and my business started from there. Business-wise, I do not want to be with my business, but I am taking my time and knowing I will get there. It has been an easy run for me. At one point I stopped selling and was about to give up on my business because I didn’t get a lot of shares on social media so I didn’t have a lot of sales. I got discouraged and told myself that this wasn’t for me. It wasn’t until recently like maybe around September of this year 2021 I decided to give it a try again just do things differently and take my time. I realized the first time I was just going too fast. This time around I am just making sure everything is the way I want it to be and I know sooner or later I will reach those sale goals I want.

My business is what I am passionate about. I don’t have anyone showing me the ropes of running a business I am learning by myself. I am doing this by myself so I know for a fact I am going to start off slow but I know eventually Saditty Avenue will grow and it will get out there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well here in Birmingham, AL I do not know many places and I don’t really get out much here. I think ideal for me is going places out of town like Tennesse and Florida. But if I had to choose places in Birmingham I would say a nice Hibachi restaurant, movies, and bowling.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course my three sons Tristian, Ashton, and Lyam. They are my motivation for everything positive that I am doing with my life. I want to build for their future so when they are all grown up they will look back and say “Mommy made a way for us” and they will go out and do great and amazing things like I know they will because they are great and amazing kids.
