We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Dudas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
In her book “Braiding Sweetgrass,” Robin Wall Kimmerer writes, “Our first responsibility is gratitude.” This quote resonates with me deeply. It draws me back to my heart and underscores the privilege of existence. Even amidst life’s challenges, I am reminded that I am still breathing, a testament to the trees graciously providing oxygen for me to inhale and converting the carbon dioxide I exhale. Being alive is indeed a miracle, an intimate connection to the wonders of nature, which we are a part of.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, Beáta Botanicals, was born out of reverence for my ancestors—those who felt belonging deep in their bones. ‘Beáta’ (pronounced bey-ah-ta) translates to ‘Blessed,’ serving as a reminder of our inherent ability to shift consciousness and connect with the wonderful mystery of life at any moment. I embarked on my journey with my herbal apothecary business in 2014, and since then, it has evolved alongside me. There have been periods when I stepped back due to significant life changes. Recently, I re-branded and renamed my company to better reflect my essence after a decade of growth.

Embracing change has been a consistent theme in both my business and personal life, as they are intertwined. I deeply cherish the opportunity to share the magic of plants with others. Through connecting and working with plants, I’ve cultivated a profound connection to my mind, body, spirit, and the world around me. It’s an honor to extend this sense of nourishment and belonging to others. I offer herbal-focused classes online and in person, provide one-on-one consultations, and curate a line of Flower Essence products.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

My favorite spot to hang is the Silver Comet Trail in Smyrna. I love walking the paved path and then making my way down to the creek for a more nature filled time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my success to my first teacher, Marysia Miernowska, the director and teacher of the School of the Sacred Wild, where I completed my first Herbal apprenticeship in 2014. She opened my eyes to the magic and nourishment the plant world so generously provides.
