We had the good fortune of connecting with Aryonna Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aryonna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind my business was honestly MONEY lol ,but when I really sat down and thought about what is my real reason for starting my own business, it was more so my twin girls. I started out as a Lash Tech while working as phlebotomist back in 2018. One year I got real sick with pneumonia while suffering with Sickle Cell Anemia and couldn’t work my job or do lashes. So then i came up with the plan of let me find something else to do or sell because even in the condition of feeling better I was not only subjecting myself to others and their health issues, I was also allowing them to subject themselves to me. Well further along while still working, I noticed that my health wasn’t getting better after suffering with pneumonia, I as well suffer with Sickle Cell Anemia which I mentioned earlier, which is a long term blood disease where some of my cells are shaped like a half moon and spongy where they get stuck in the veins and no good blood can get through. So, this causes pain in the joints spontaneously. Once again I’m in the hospital coming up with a plan that will allow money to still be made without me having to be there directly. At this point my husband was in jail and when I got the chance to have that call I told him I came up with a business I can do, I just have to invest into the product. That’s when I came up with the lash business I called Truue Lash. I continued to work and persue my side hustles until COVID-19 hit and that’s when I knew something was going to have to change. I tried every side hustle along with selling lashes and still working. Then you have that day at work where you’re like ok I’m over this place and their mess so it’s time for me to walk. Then boom hubby goes away for a month or 2 and here I am no job 2 kids and still have bills to pay. This is when Truue Tingz was established and I added bundles and head bands to the catelog to offset the lashes. Trust me it’s not an easy task but when you set your small goals into a staircase it makes it a bit easier to reach the top to the bigger goal at hand even when battling your own battles.
No, I’m not exactly where I would like to be but I can say I’m well ON MY WAY! My supoort system is everything to me and to them I might not show it on a daily basis but it means the world to have them by my side. Rather if I’m getting on my husband’s nerves with everything lol or calling my bestfriends with more ideas instead of keeping a steady pace of what’s already in front of me, they have been here since day 1 and I’m very appreciative.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At this time I’m a stay at home mom and a student. I just started school about a week ago to work on my bachelors degree in Business and Administration. So everything is pretty fresh the only thing thats stressful is raising these kids lol but we all are doing the best we can to get to the next level in what ever direction GOD wants us to go. Nothing in life is easy but the more you get through the battles that was meant to stand in your way the better you will feel once you reach the top. Even at this point of my 1st year as an entrepreneur I still don’t know how to properly set up a website but it’s up (www.truuetingz.site), I still dont know how to market correctly and consistantly but I’m going to post until my fingers fall off. Why? because as the saying go “SLOW FEET DON’T EAT” and the way we like to eat I can’t afford to have slow feet lol. Just know when the opportunity comes banging at your door more then once it’s time to stop playing and time to take off.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The most me and my friends gone do is eat and get drunk lol. This has been my 1st year without working so I have no clue what’s hot in Atlanta fr lol but I do have a few places we can visit that I never been to.
-Monday we would proberly go to The Trap Music Museum and go have food and drinks at the closest resturant because we all know Atlanta traffic is horrible lol
-Tuesday we would go to iFLY and of course find something to eat in the area of the event.
-Wednesday go to windown wednesday at centennial park with our cooler and eat inside the CNN Center
– Thursday go to Top Golf where you can eat drink and have fun all at the sametime.
– Friday ITS THE WEEKEND BABY!! LOL we will go to the Mexican on Old Nat and then on to Central Station
– Saturday rest day but if my friend wanted to go somewhere we can go to BusyBee for brunch and Mimosas.
– Sunday my friend is on her way back home and I can finally rest fully lol
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my hubby Chris Williams ( which has a clothing line otw, so be on the look out for NO PLEA Clothing) for being there when no one else was there. My twins Payton and Paisley for always putting up with me and my mess rather I’m overwhalmed or simply just not in the mood, they come with the right words or even just a simple hug or kiss. Last but not least I would love to Shoutout my customers, supporters and the person that took the time to nominate me for this interview.
