We had the good fortune of connecting with April Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi April, what role has risk played in your life or career?
We live in a society where the need for risk taking presents itself daily. Risks presents themselves I every are of our lives whether it be our relationships, our careers, or just trying something new at our favorite restaurant!
When I think about what role risks taking has played in my life, I literally get chills. You know how you have a vision in your head and it will not leave leave until you execute the vision ? That’s how I felt the year of 2018 when I birth Our Hidden Treasures Inc, a non – profit organization that focuses on serving our local communities.
What started as trips to the skating rink or manicure pampering sessions for those who may been less fortunate, has turned into an opportunity to encourage and help people realize their own potential. My most prized hidden treasures include compassion, strong work ethic and a servant’s heart.
I just knew in my heart that god gave me a gift and that gift was to give back to my community and to serve. I knew once I wrote my business plan many people would’ve thought I was crazy. I also knew some wouldn’t get the vision but that was perfectly fine with me. I figured once god has called you to do something you can’t worry about what others may say.
There have been plenty of times I had to come out of my pockets to pay for the outings I took the kids on. I lived by the idea that if there is a will there is a way.
Eventually, people started to see my vision and wanted to help with “donations, volunteer services” ect. Here we are four to five years later and the vision is still being succeeded. I knew then that entrepreneurship was the title for me and my future. I knew I had a gift for helping others succeed at their potential and that’s when A Guided Experienced, LLC was born, to help people like me launch successful brands and host extraordinary event’s through a guided experience. I took a risk on myself and I encourage everyone to do the same.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart !
Let’s see . I guess I would start by saying I actually care. I currently have 10 years of staffing. And anyone who knows anything about staffing knows this job is not for the weak. I was able to grow within my career because I simply showed up. I would report to work an hour early everyday . I always made sure the office atmosphere was set for the day. I checked all voicemails, set up orientation classes, made sure there were no payroll issues, assessed client requests. As time went on I was promoted to Associate Relations Manager. This role was created throughout our market through my efforts. Currently, I travel across our market incorporating best practices.
I take pride in my work. I love being able to save the day and be the problem solver. Has it been easy YES, because there is a need and I come to appease that need. Dealing with different personalities would be the biggest challenge. However, I am a people person and I am big on respect. So I don’t go in acting as if I know it all. I allow each person to walk in their light. I just guide and assist with best practices all while allowing them to still do things their way.
My brand is a reflection of me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting me from out of town. First, I would take her to get a rapid covid test. LOL No but I would first schedule us a massage and a nice venue downtown Greenville, We would then walk through the downtown are to Halls to have a nice brunch and people watch. Once we were finished with Brunch we would go freshen up and just relax for a while. That night I would say go out for drinks and just dance the night away. I’m not a dancer at all and this year one of my goals is to let my hair down. Just be my authentic self and dance like no one is watching.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My table !
What I mean by that is, that is a mixture of people from my parents who always no matter what support me and everything I do. They keep me lifted and run with everything I do. My brothers whenever I need them to help set up events they’re there. Last, but not least my friends, I can’t really thank them enough from the shares, to the many nights they stayed on the phone with me listening to my ideas and helping me bring them to fruition. So when I say my table that’s exactly what I mean and I’m forever thankful for them.
