We had the good fortune of connecting with Anisa Palmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was born an Entrepreneur! I saw my mom and dad excel at entrepreneurship so well when I was young. Dad owned a medical lab and Mom was an artist and teacher. At age 17, I was working at an early learning center with two side gigs (babysitting and a hairstylist for children). Palmer Firm is about building a legacy. As a new mom, it means so much more to me now than it did when I started it in 2012. I have met so many people all over the world who were not living in their purpose or those who wanted to serve but did not know where to begin. Our Firm trains, coaches, and inspires people in various ways. We help people get over their fear of public speaking, find their purpose, start a nonprofit organization in 30 days, and speak at events all over the nation on leadership and health.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My Firm just published my first book in October of 2019. It has been a journey! My late and great mother always wanted to publish before she lost her fight to breast cancer in October 1990. She never got a chance to, so I added one of her amazing poems into my book. My book is sold on Amazon and where I was born and raised, St. Croix Virgin Islands, in the Cultural Museum Center for the Arts. My book, Purpose: The Ultimate Climax, also just released the Audible version this year and e-book in 2020. We also just launched the Purpose Store this year on Spotify and PurposeTV on YouTube. The legacy keeps growing. My career is all about living in my purpose, helping others live in theirs, and helping others live healthier lives so they can be around to enjoy theirs. It’s not work if you love what you do. I love what I do! Yes, there will always be challenges in business, that’s what makes days exciting. When you can overcome challenges, it makes that progress that much more rewarding. As events begin to pick up again, I am sure, more opportunities will present themselves, Bronner Bros. just called to book me for their Health Panel segment of the prestigious International Beauty Show. Health is our greatest wealth!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since 2020, all eyes have been on the Black Lives Matter movement. Covid-19 then came and hit many of us hard. I had to put a hold on my international book tour with the Firm and with no event, no speaking engagements! According to CNBC, “Covid-19 has exacerbated some of the issues facing the Black community. African American entrepreneurs have had to close their doors at more than twice the rate of their White counterparts. Black-owned businesses declined by 41% between February and April 2020, compared with a 17% decline among White-owned businesses.” I have made it strategic to support more Black-Owned Businesses so I would say for anyone coming into town, please support Black-Owned Businesses, those are my favorite and those need the most support.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out all the amazing people in the world who have supported my Firm or Charity, who are living in their purpose! Joi Stokes of JoiStik, Sayonara Raymond of Glam Art Designs, Dr. April Spencer of Taylor Made Cosmetics, Dr. David Montgomery of PREvent Clinic, Derrick Hayes of Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks, Ryan Wilson and TK Petersen of The Gathering Spot and so much more. My Firm (Palmer Firm) and Charity (I Will Survive, Inc.) work hand in hand as community partners!
