We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi amber, why did you pursue a creative career?
I first knew I wanted to pursue a career as an aerialist ever since I went to the universal soul circus as a little girl I started off as a cheerleader as a child at 10, did cheerleading for two years during high school, and one semester durning college. I fell off for years and it wasn’t until 2021, when I began my aerial yoga journey. I started doing yoga when I got medically retired from the Navy. I was diagnosed with lupus and a rare neuromuscular disease called myasthenia gravis, I had lost 70% of my mobility and suffered great nervous system and muscular issues because of the illness. Becoming a yogi and embracing ancient healing techniques guided me into the path way of yoga and aerial yoga. After doing regular yoga and pilates for a year, I was able to have the endurance and strength to begin Lyra, aerial hammock, and aerial silk. I am now in remission and am practicing as a professional!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am always a Yogi before anything. My aerial journey would not have been possible if it wasn’t for me mastering beginner through advanced yoga. Having to rebuild my strength from using walker to holding leg lifts on cliffs took a lot. of patience, resilience, dedication, tears, and sweat. I am grateful for the journey and path I had to go through to be able to gain mobility, flexibility, stamina, and mental focus to be able to say I am disciplined in my practice. Because of my dedication to gaining strength, I now do Lyra ,which is spinning from a hoop in the air, while doing multiple aerial yoga poses. I also, do Aerial pole, Aerial hammock and Aerial silk. Nothing about being a yogi or aerialist is easy, it take a lot of meditation and balance! I do the same flows or poses almost everyday and take a new achievement from it. Everyday is a new reward in becoming the best version of me! I wan the world to know that if I can go from using a walker to being an amazing aerialist in less than two years, the sky has limitless options for you too!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming in town the first place we would go to is Jeju in Duluth! I love doing spiritual things with my friends! Spaland is Duluth is nice as well. We would stay there as long as our bodies could take because it is a 24 hour spa. Afterwards we would go get something healthy and replenishing for our bodies. Our day would then consist of yoga, stretching, meditating, doing aerial, journaling, venting, hiking, drinking tea, sun bathing, sound mediation and just relaxing! We would try to spend as much time as possible outdoors, either at a local park or lake. We love sitting next o bodies of water doing sound baths. Red top mountain is one of my favorite lakes. East palisades bamboo forest is another favorite hidden GEM! Roswell mill waterfall is a quick nice hike as well! The waterfall sound therapy is lovely.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would first like to thank my ancestors for guiding me and installing wisdom and guidance through my healing journey, embracing being in tune with my inner femininity and creative path.

I would like to thank my children Noel and Kamryn for always treating me as their muse and superstar. Their unwavering support will never go unnoticed,

I would next like to thank my bestfriend Sharmayne for always encouraging me, pushing me and motivating me to be the best person I can be. She has dreams and visions of me being an aerialist and how beautiful my life will be pursuing it. She aways wants to see my new poses or practice videos. We encourage each other on every path we take and I am grateful for her so much!

My sister Shyreka who is always one phone call away, supporting me and encouraging me to keep going whenever I”m feeling out of it! She will always put me back in line to keep being my authentic self!

I would lastly like to thank myself for not ever giving up and pushing to be the strongest healthiest version of myself!
