Meet Allyson Merchant | Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Allyson Merchant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allyson, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
From the time I can remember, I have always been fascinated with photography. Even back in the 90s I would always beg my mom to get a disposable camera, and then proceed to beg her to upgrade for the 1hr developing process , ha!
Next, I remember endless selfies & mirror pics with crummy digital cameras. Eventually, after getting married, I knew I wanted to purchase a decent camera to capture special memories and family gatherings. I began obsessing over learning settings and perfecting my skills. After many, and I mean many, hours of YouTube trial and error practice, free sessions, and some mentoring, I knew I was ready to do the dang thing!
My business name is a play on the word photography and my maiden name “Fitzwater”…. Hence Fitzography . I’m proud to incorporate my maiden name in my business name because it reminds me of who I am and I strive to run my business with the integrity that was modeled before me growing up as a “Fitzwater”.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is best described in two words color & clarity, I LOVE a good crisp focused image, something I am always chasing after. In addition, I love TIMELESS COLOR. I want the images I capture to forever be in style. I’m not into excessive editing or filters, I want my images to look true to color and I believe that true color is the most realistic way to capture your story!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in one of the most unique towns in America. I grew up and capture my clients in Peachtree City, GA. Our special city is known most for its hundreds of miles of golf cart trails. The trails we’ve in and out of the city from restaurants, to schools, to nature trails. This is one of my favorite things to do with friends and family. A day off for me usually includes hanging out with my two little boys on the Golfcart heading to the local Mexican restaurant, Fuego Mar, for cheese dip & fajitas!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There were other local photographers who were kind in my learning process and one specifically, Taylor Ann Photography, who had lunch with me early in my photography journey and I asked ALL the questions.
In addition to other photographers helping me get started, I have been so incredibly lucky to have been chosen to be a preferred vendor at not one, not two, but THREE local phenomenal venues. 1. Lillian Gardens, 2. The Venue at Daisy Hill, and 3. The Venue at Murphy Lane. It has been an absolute honor to work with these outstanding venues, and I am forever grateful to these lovely people for believing in me and allowing me to capture love stories at their special venues. These venue owners have without a doubt helped my business grow and thrive! Thank you Ashley, Kara & Hank!!
