We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexus Fields and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexus, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I’m learning that taking the time to implement a healthy work/life balance is the key to success. Work hard, but please eat a meal 3 times a day. Work late, but remember to get some actual sleep. I tend to work a whole day and not eat or eat things that don’t fuel my body. I know that I have to do better and those are the habits I’m implementing to succeed.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a cosmetologist by trade, but I also created my own haircare line designed to help those who didn’t necessarily want to do their hair while still giving it the care it deserves. I lost my hair after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Graves Disease. It was a major confidence hit for me because I cherished my hair. So instead of stressing myself even further, I decided to go create my own products! The name Of my salon is Golden Galore and my products are called Mo’ Hair Grow Hair.
I wore wigs most of the time while I grew my hair back, but I used these products to care for it and it absolutely flourished.
It wasn’t easy at first because this was also during the time that I lost my mom. With the help of my husband, my sister, and the rest of my family, I had the support I needed to push through those hard days.
Along the way I’ve learned to always be a student. Learning as much as I can to better serve my clients is important to me. I want to heal the trauma that people are experiencing from hairstylist and salons. Getting your hair done should be a relaxing time and I want to provide that in every way that I can. That’s why my salon is private to only me and my client. I have an entirely building with 1 chair and 1 bowl dedicated to whoever books that appointment. You are the main character at Golden Galore.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting here, I would take them to Blu Jazz Cafe or Chesterfields. Those are my favorite restaurants here. I usually have all of my fun out of town because I love being near the water. So we would go on a girls trip to Miami or somewhere like that.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My late mother. I started my business during a time of grief. I wanted to do great things and my mother supported that. It didn’t kick in for me until after she passed. I knew that I had to reach those goals and everyday she inspires me with little signs and memories that keep me going.
