We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Abbott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
A favorite affirmation of mine is one I coined, “I am merging the world inside my head with the one around me one page at a time.”

As a creative, I often find that the world inside my head and the world around me don’t quite match up. This started during childhood when I took to writing in order to escape the everyday and experience more of my internal world. I would write for hours on end by myself in my room, during class in between taking notes, and even in the living room surrounded by my family on Christmas day.

This passion for experiencing that inner world stuck with me as I aged and I naturally wanted to make a living and maintain the freedom to be myself. I know that by applying the affirmation, “One page at a time…” to my life, I can gradually transform this dream into reality.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
If I had to choose one word to describe my “brand” it would be: HUMANITY.

I am a creative who eventually chose to obtain a B.A. in English Writing and Publication because my interests vary widely. From learning about the new Webb telescope to going on a late night deep dive into the history of Victorian era medicine, I am interested in absolutely everything. This wide interest has led me to learn many skills and trades surrounding writing and art. But no matter if I am writing a personalized anniversary poem for a couple, editing a client’s newest novel, or helping a company develop their logo…humanity and the celebration and exploration of it is always at the center.

I chose writing because I AM a writer. I am interested in everything and I write in order to express myself and explore ideas and thought patterns. But what truly fuels me is helping others celebrate their experience being human. One of my favorite jobs was writing community articles for the Los Banos Enterprise newspaper located in Los Banos, CA and one of my favorite things to do is help a soon-to-be-bride write her vows or create a poem for someone who I just spent the last several minutes talking with to gauge what was most important to them.

Hearing the life stories of other people and being able to not only support but encourage their paths with my words gives me a sense of purpose.

If you were to read my creative writing, primarily my poetry, you’d also notice that the theme usually revolves around space, time, and the human experience. The theme of my writing is existence itself.

Of course there have been challenges along the way. There will be many more to come. But seeing one of my tutoring students gain confidence in themselves as they learn a new skill or seeing tears well up and spill down the cheeks of someone I wrote a poem for in real time on-the-spot makes it worth it to keep striving for the ability to give those moments to others full time.

No matter what path I might take, my true drive and passion is celebrating others and making sense of this weird 100 year span of time that we get to be a jelly mass powered by a thunderstorm and piloting a meat suit that we call a body.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting Atlanta for the first time I would take them to all the known main attractions: The Georgia Aquarium and the Atlanta Zoo. I would also take them to Jeju spa to get some downtime, a wonderful traditional Korean bathhouse spa, and of course catch a show at the Lakeland Amphitheatre or The Masquerade, if there was one playing.

For food I would have them try out The Bookhouse Pub, where they have a new menu every day with a different local chef, The Imperial Fez, an elaborately decorated Moroccan restaurant with belly dancing & floor seating, and Passador Brazillian Steakhouse, which is where they bring you what seems like endless options for meat and a delicious selection of sides.

If the outdoors are your thing, the AT and Benton Mackay trails both start in north Georgia. There is also Cloudland Canyon Park and Tallulah Falls – both are a beautiful place to visit!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my father, Rex Abbott. Without his support and guidance I would have never attempted any of the things I’ve been able to do. The number of times I have tried to give up and go a different path is more than I can count, and every single time he has come through and reminded me who I am and what I am capable of. I am truly grateful for his understanding and belief in me.
