We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Starks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrienne, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I was a little girl, I wanted a microscope for Christmas. As I grew up, I started exploring many different scientific fields. I attended Alabama A&M Univerisity, where I obtained my bachelor’s in Biology. I later attended the Univerisity of Maryland, Baltimore County, where I received my Ph.D. in biological sciences. I wanted to bring STREAM to underrepresented communities. I founded STREAM Innovations to do just that. Today, STREAM Innovations has partnered with K-8 Schools, recreation centers, and universities to provide programs through STEM-based learning.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Of course, it was not easy starting my business, but it definitely was worth it. I struggled to find leadership as I was embarking on his new adventure. Our students are the Innovators. They pushed me to work hard and help them become successful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend exploring downtown. There are so many sights to explore. We could go to the Civil Rights Institute. Then we would go to lunch at Yo Mommas.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
