We had the good fortune of connecting with AdriAnne Everett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi AdriAnne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When starting my own business, it was completely coincidental. I never had the intention, I did it with the intention of just for my family. Then people would ask to use some. Then ask for more. Then ask for their own and it kept going. I couldnt believe other people liked it and was willing to pay me for it!
So it was word of mouth at first. Then people said they knew others who wanted some and how could they get some from me? So there went the thought to create a website…then it went on from there.
I always had the entrepreneurial spirit. I did Avon, had a gift basket business, baked cakes and now this. I wanted my children to feel like they could work for themselves and not just someone else for the next 25-30 years. There is no greater pride than to own your own business and YOU are the boss!!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is The Shea Buttercream Diva. I help people with dry skin…but with luxury products that wont break the bank!
I know that quality products that smell divine, feel great on the body with an affordable price along with EXCELLENT customer relations is what sets us apart. I love my clients and they love me back! And because of this, they are loyal and continue supporting my business.
Business wise, getting me where I am took 8 years. Lots of mistakes. Lots of “aww man, I didnt know that” moments were made. Through research and advice from many people, have helped with that. Its an ongoing process.
One major lesson I’ve learned: KNOW YOUR WORTH!! Know and believe in your product. People will pay for what they want. Don’t think they wont. People will pay $80 for a designer soap. Why should I feel bad for selling mine for $7!! If I believe in the quality of my products and charge accordingly, then others will too. I still struggle with that at times, Im a work in progress.
I’ve also learned to trademark your name and anything else that you may need to for your business. Ive trademarked my name and my slogan: Luxury For The Skin®️
I want the entire world to know and use my products. I secretly want to take over the world!! I want people to know there are quality products made with love, that will get you addicted, that will not break the bank. I believe in my products and I want everyone else to also.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Im such a homebody!!! I really hope someone wouldnt rely on my to be their tour guide!! lol But I do love food!! Living in NYC has everything!! We would have to try some cuisine from a lot of different countries: Jamaican Oxtail. Chinese Pork Buns. Pad See Ew from Thailand. Good grief. The best donuts from Peter Pan’s, Dough or Fan Fan. Oh dont forget maaaaaaaad GREAT pizza spots.
We have to go to the museum: Brooklyn Museum, Natural History Museum Or The MET. Lets go to Dominio Park to walk around or Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Whatever you want to do…we have it here in NYC. Lets go to 42nd St and shop and sightsee.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success, my support and encouragement mostly comes from my FAMILY!! My sister Jenn, my husband David and my kids are my greatest cheerleaders. Each have their own role that I can say contributed to my success: business advice, social media advice, product testing, financial push, workers, word of mouth spreaders, product pushers….
Other businesses that have shared their tips, contacts and have “put me on” like Wayne and Renee from Drunken Fruit, share the spotlight and giving me a chance for exposure.
