We had the good fortune of connecting with Adriana Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adriana, why did you pursue a creative career?
Pursuing an artistic career is a big challenge from where I come from, since it is a really competitive field and full of market, and it is not always recognized as it should be. Making a decision about what you want to study even knowing how difficult and tedious it can be is a challenge. Despite this, for me it is like taking “that leap of faith” to study something that you really like and knowing that you did something with fear, but you still did it, and that is a step that not all of us take.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I came to graphic design thanks to my little self, I always liked art, the complete composition of whatever I saw. I’m still studying but I want to dedicate myself to Editorial Design and creating illustrations for children, in addition to my current job, which is tattooing. I would like to focus on both, even knowing that it is not an easy task, it is something that makes me feel happy and myself. I would like to be able to inspire other children like I was when I was little, who admired things that at first glance seem simple, but have a design story behind them, such as the label of a product, works in museums, posters. of cinema, the finishes and textures of the papers, etc. Stimulating and awakening the creativity of a child as was my case is an artistic awakening.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take him to see places in Xalapa, some area with a beach, I am from Veracruz. Therefore, I would always invite people to see the beauty of the state.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give infinite thanks to many of my art teachers from when I was little to the present for showing me to go beyond my limits, to not be complacent with my work and to show that I can give a little (too much) more. I also thank German Moreno, he is the one who taught me how to tattoo and he was always humane and understanding with me, he showed me when I was wrong and when I did it right, his work on realism tattoos is incredible, I had the best school. And obviously my most important people are my parents and my sister, who never lost any part of their faith in what I do.
