We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiemeisha Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiemeisha, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
The most impactful, pertinent thing I have done as a parent is simply pour into my daughter; spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. As a single mother, it is no secret that I am the on-call physician, therapist, cheerleader, teacher, chef, technology expert, and so much more. The list is infinite. There are struggles, moments of praise, and even moments of sadness.
For the duration of my daughter’s life, I have made it a point to never allow her to wake up daily without affirming her, sharing words of wisdom, and reminding her that she is worthy, strong, and enough.
Even through the financial burdens and emotional turmoils we have faced, my goal has never been to fester in the problem, rather discover a solution and focus on correction. With that being said, my daughter Layla and I collectively decided to publish a book during the time in which the world was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Child author Layla has the answers that will help other girls like her recognize the best in themselves.
Released and published December 2020, the story entitled, ‘Brown Baby, Little Lady’ is a book that explores the power of positive self-talk for girls.
What should our readers know about your business?
K. Harris, Realtor LLC, my real estate business, was established in year 2020. The business’s goal is to empower others to create a life they love living by building a prosperous real estate investing business, while feeling part of a community that supports and creates a bond with like-minded individuals. We know it is POSSIBLE to create wealth with real estate while pursuing our bigger WHY and have a POSITIVE impact on the lives of others.
K. Harris, Realtor LLC works tirelessly to educate and organize around a broad range of issues aligned with our core mission of creating an Atlanta where everyone has a good, affordable place to call home. Specifically, we partner with government and local agencies, political groups, and housing networks who are all committed to the following tasks in order to ensure that housing is made affordable in the City of Atlanta.
As the business was established in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges have been unavoidable, to say the least. Shortly after the start of the pandemic, the biggest challenge was obtaining new clients. At the time, many traditional marketing channels were closed. Currently, given our country’s current real estate market, the challenges are working with clients who do not have the ability to compete in this competitive seller’s market. We face bidding wars, multiple offer situations, and are seeing offers being accepted at $50k upward above asking price.
After thorough market research and education, my business has established a proven strategy to help my clients not only submit offers that were most suiting and advantageous for their current needs, but also win these offers. I have learned lessons along the way with the help of my mentor, dwelling in education and daily market research, and simply learning from mistakes I have made along the way.
Over the past decade, I have held professional positions in industries as leadership, business, sales, marketing, law, cosmetics, hair/makeup, interior design, international travel, commercial insurance, finance, hospitality, branding, entrepreneurial studies, and many other ventures. What makes my business unique? Having had the opportunity to explore and experience a plethora of career arenas has aided in the discovery of a profound desire to guide clients, as they make one of the biggest investments of their lives-real estate. Every ounce of experience gained, training, and education has never been taken for granted. In fact, each career industry has not only illustrated to myself, what strong servant leadership looks like, but has also helped me to establish an innovative way to service customers/clients, while providing them with unforgettable service.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live for a good time! When my best friend comes to town, we are most definitely going shopping-retail therapy is always the way to go! I’d take her to Avalon, a premier shopping center with several shops, boutiques, eateries, etc in Alpharetta. We would visit a few of my favorite vegan restaurants, as she too, is vegan. Some of my favorite vegan restaurants include Slutty Vegan and Sunflower Cafe.
As for lounges/restaurants, we both enjoy a savvy, chic environment, so one can never go wrong with Apt4B, a modern restaurant in the heart of Buckhead Atlanta. Another favorite is Rocksteady, where good food, culture, and music is guaranteed.
Should one come to Atlanta, they cannot leave without visiting the outdoor parks as the Botanical Gardens, walking the Beltline, checking out Edgewood District, Downtown, and so much more. Known for its eclecticism, culture, and art, Atlanta’s culture is like no other. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story simply belongs to God. Though it may seem a tad cliché to state, it truly does. The past two years of life have been emotional, uncertain, and mentally draining, to be totally transparent. Prior to real estate, I lost my traditional employment due to COVID-19, leaving me in a state of distress and fear. Through it all, I stayed prayed up, positive, and resourceful. Consequently, I am confident I was able to withstand as a result of my faith. There is not one single need that wasn’t met.
Moreover, I’d like to shoutout my strong, supportive camp; family, Layla (my daughter) friends, and my significant other. With their love, support, and encouragement, I have been able to not only venture into a new career in which I truly am passionate about, but also initiated my daughter’s newest business, Layla & Friends, Co., a book publishing boutique that serves to empower and offer an encouraging foundation for black and brown girls to express themselves at home, in school, and in other social environments.
