Meet Classified Alias: Producer & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Classified Alias and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Classified, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Self-discipline, practice, and people that hold me accountable.

I have a habit of focusing and practicing on something so much that I almost ignore everything else around me – Do I think that’s necessarily a good thing? Not all the time, but it’s definitely a trait that I have come to appreciate. With that, the people closest to me hold me accountable when I don’t leave room for those other things. It creates a healthy balance. I work hard and I have dedicated a lot of time and energy to my craft. Not only because I want to be successful at what I do, but because I feel like I owe it to the people that have helped me get this far.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started playing piano and trumpet in elementary school, including Saturday classes at the Carver Theatre. Today, I design sounds, create songs, scores, and podcast/vlog music for other creators.

I consider myself a genre-blending producer, heavily influenced by jazz, funk, gospel and house music. It took me a second to find my sound, but I was determined to sound like me and not trying to replicate producers I look up to.
That was the biggest challenge. Believing that my originality was cool and creative enough to stand out. And accepting that even if no one else thought it was as good as I knew it was, that was cool because I liked it.

I’m love what I do and not for the money, because that will come anyway, but because I can’t see myself living without it. I plan on doing this for the rest of my life and I’m dedicated to maximizing my talents, because God gave them to me for a reason.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family is huge and they’re my backbone, and without their support and encouragement I don’t think I’d be on the path that I’m on now.

I definitely show my appreciation to the people, groups, and organizations that have invested in me, any time I have the opportunity, so without making a list of dozens of people that have had an impact on my life, I’ll just leave it at, “Thank you for believing in me. I promise it means more than you know – You know who you are.”
