We had the good fortune of connecting with Lex & Cyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lex, how do you think about risk?
We take risks, its what the cat life is all about. We consider ourselves efficiently reckless! Risk happens and we face it with mischievous smiles and cattails up. Our risks have created so many adventures, friendships, and opportunities for us. Its important for us to remain grounded, and then jump as high as we can. Go Big or Don’t Go. Cyd’s decision to drive to Cali set the pace for our community and friendship. Driving for five days straight taught us we could do whatever we put our mind to, and the destination is ours to pick.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We both dreamed of becoming yoga instructors to supplement the podcast. Doing yoga is apart of our social experiences and regular routine when at home or on the road somehow. We’ve hosted yoga classes for the community, hiring instructors to teach for us. We wanted to do more the the community, so we took training to become instructors ourselves. Purr It Out yoga is an extension of the Catnipz brand, where we both are working towards becoming yoga instructors. Lexi recently wrapped her training and Cyd is knee deep in the final portion of training. The impact of the Coronavirus pandemic pushed us to take our classes online, where we host yoga for our friends and family. Yoga training is intense, mentally reshaping, and hard on the body, but oh so very worth it. Yoga is such a mental exercise, it teaches you how to listen to yourself while reconnecting with your body. We had to overcome the challenge of balancing our schedules, and rest during such intensive periods. We want the world to know how impactful yoga is overall. Purr It Out Yoga can be such a healing practice and safe space for people to connect with themselves.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So we battled over whether Lex or Cyd should get the shoutout, so we defaulted to the Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae. Due to Cyd’s incredible foresight and sense of humor, this book was a staple for one of our many roadtrips. This book made us all feel seen as the awkward black girls we are, and it gave the confidence to go hard for ourselves. It was during just one road trip with this book that we designed the Catnipz Podcast, and the seed for our digital community was planted. Super grateful to see her efforts continuing to expand, its paving a way for us to do our thing too.
