Meet Malik Greene: Creator/ Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Malik Greene and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Malik, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
For me personally once I made the transition from an artist by hobby to an artist by profession I had to realize how much of the job was comprised of not even painting. Starting out I would love to get lost into hours and hours of painting/ procrastination sessions but now I just have more of a process that is based on this being my passion first and foremost but also a business that is really an extension of myself. Thinking of budgets, applying to shows but being a business as opposed to a skill for fun is probably what I think is something most are unaware of, I’m starting to love understanding the ins and outs of the trade but from the outside looking in it just may seem as if I paint all day and that’s it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Honestly, I am just proud that I am doing what I said I would always do with myself! I often sit and think about when I was a child and thought of what I would be doing with my life, yes I am not there exactly but I love what I am spending my life in my creation! I make the inner eight years old in me happy every time I get to create and that makes me the proudest of anything I have done so far. I definitely won’t say where I have gotten to now has been easy but it also hasn’t been too hard to do what I love to do more than anything in this world. I know there is a way to go but I know that I can look at myself as inspiration to follow my dreams no matter how risky it may be. The brand is me so as long as I keep it true I will never need to compare!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m such a homebody it’s insane haha, but if I was to have a friend come in town I like to have everything one would need for a good vibe close by. Especially with the virus being so prevalent I made it a very big thing for me to have everything needed for a good time inside! drinks, extracurriculars, I love playing chess, I’m a fairly boring guy but I try to find joy in the presence and interaction. good music, good air, a studio visit and maybe a few gallery runs are the fun things I tend to do. I recently picked up axe throwing so that’s always a possibility but as I said about the virus I kinda just try to make sure everyone is comfortable and not too exposed. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Currently, the biggest source of inspiration and motivation for me has been my family! I have recently dived deeper into my own family history and all of the pieces that make me into the man I am today. Without them, I wouldn’t be as grounded as I find myself yet they also show me that I’m the only one who could put a limit on me. So my shoutout would definitely have to go out to my mom, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews they really are just little pieces that make the man I am now, if anything they push me to be better.
