Meet Selam Woldemichael: Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Selam Woldemichael and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Selam, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most important thing I try to do for kids is to be a good example. I try not to tell them what to do but rather to show them doing it myself because children watch you more than they listen to you. Especially to my daughters, I try to teach them and show them that they can do more than what society labels us to be as men and women.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Although I had a love for photography a long time ago, It took me so long to get to it because of the responsibilities and priorities I had in my life. I knew I was gonna go after what I love regardless of what and it was just a matter of time and staying determined. I am not a person who gives up easily in my dreams. Matter of fact , I don’t entertain or pay attention to the word ”give up” . I have all the excuses to give up and not to follow my dream but I choose to be stronger than my strongest excuse. If I ever make it look easy… I am a wife, mother of three and I have a full time job as an accountant. This leaves me with a very little time to manage my photography business. But what matters is doing what you love then you can make time for it. This could be a little less sleep and a little less time with family and friends. When I see my sacrifice and my hard work pay off, the feeling is priceless. There is nothing in life I say ‘I can’ and I couldn’t. what you tell yourself matters. I do my photography work with full of love and passion and you clearly see that in my pictures.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would for sure take her to Ethiopian restaurants to eat like Mela Ethiopian restaurant and Ethiopiques cafe. I love Buford downtown, just hang out and grab a drink. Also I would drive to Helen, GA , it’s a great place to spend the afternoon and evening, great food and music.Mid town is a great place for a city vibe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am always thankful to have a wonderful and supportive husband, family and friends by my side. There are the one who see the hard work ,the sacrifice, the disappointment, the tears , the determinations, the time management , the focus… behind the goal and success.
I am also surrounded with these 8 beautiful and strong groups of women called ” My dream village ” It truly is a dream village. We build each other up everyday, we celebrate each other’s success without questioning our own and treat each other like sisters.
I am also lucky to have a lot of photographer friends. They understand my passion for photography more than anyone else. They are always there to help and to shoot and talk photography with me.
