We had the good fortune of connecting with Mona Sanders and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mona, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
A native of Berkeley, California, I began baking as a child. In the kitchen with my mother, I grew to truly enjoy the taste and smell of sweets. Nostalgia is what inspired me to begin formally baking desserts. I retired from my career with the State of California in 2017. From there, I moved with my husband to Georgia. In California, I had been baking for friends and family around the holidays. But once we moved, I decided I wanted to bake for others more regularly. In 2018, I pursued my passion full-on by starting “A Little Taste of Heaven.”

What should our readers know about your business?
Bringing more than 40 years of baking experience, I now serve customers in the Douglasville and Metro-Atlanta areas. My menu includes cookies, cakes, and sweet treats. It gives me great pride to be able to rekindle people with memories of their childhood through my desserts. I think my love for what I do and my quality of fresh ingredients make all of the difference in my baked goods. I would like the world to know ts never to late to pursue your passion. in the words of NIKE: JUST DO IT! Your gift will always make room for you, so get moving.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My favorite chef is B.Smith. I truly love her as a chef and entrepreneur. I fell in love with her because she was one of the only black women chefs on television years ago. I was inspired to see her run a successful business as a restaurant owner, model, TV show host, wife and mother. I would also like to shout out my daughter Deven Trowers. Her expertise in Public Relations has contributed to my rapid growth. Her company, DT Communications, handles public relations, social media and marketing for A Little Taste of Heaven. “She really encouraged me more than I encouraged myself,” says Sanders.
