We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamika Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamika, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Simple: The 3 P’s:
Prayer, Patience, and Persistence
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I operate a small, home based candle business. I create scented soy wax candles, wax melts, and room/linen sprays. I am most proud of my growth! The journey from 2020 (when I started the business) to now has been an uphill yet joyful adventure. Creating candles is not an easy task and I’ve gained a great deal of knowledge pertaining to the candle making industry. I’ve learned information on what works, what doesn’t work, wax, wicks, fragrance oils, containers, suppliers, advertising, marketing, packaging, shipping, and the list certainly goes on. It’s a continuing education industry! Things that I thought that I knew before, I really didn’t know until I was in the driver’s seat of operating a small business. I’ve grown to the point to where I am no longer afraid to step outside of my comfort zone. I’ve been content with creating smaller candles in 9 oz or smaller vessels because I know those formulas like the back of my hand. I was content simply because that was my comfort zone. Although this saves time, it really doesn’t require much thinking anymore because I am so familiar with those particular formulas. Now I am testing and will be producing and selling larger, 3 wick candles. I was always so fearful of going bigger! I created and tested a larger candle this week and the results were amazing!! So with that, I know that I can achieve this goal as well. I am most excited to see what is in store for Honey’s Heavenly Scents’ future achievements.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely visit Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I visited the Gardens a few years back for the Christmas light show and it was amazing. I would love to visit during the Spring/Summer. Pre-COVID, we would dine in at Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint while enjoying the live band. I love picnics and historical landmarks. We would more than like visit The King Center and have a few picnics in the park. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, God. If I did not have a relationship with God, then I would not be where I am at this current time. I dedicate this shoutout to my children! My growth and success is to show them that they can achieve their goals in life as well. You can start at the bottom but continue to keep God first and He will elevate you to that higher place. My customers are amazing! I have so many faithful, repeat customers and I appreciate them more than they will ever know. I appreciate each person who has contributed to my brand’s growth. To the single parent who maybe struggling right now, my advice is for you to keep pushing, continue to believe in yourself, and reach beyond the stars. You will get there!
