Meet Cory Hunter | Filmmaker/ Writer/ Director/ Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cory Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cory, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
There are a lot of things people are unaware of when it comes to the film industry. It’s different than watching E news and the experience differs between Hollywood giants and the indie filmmaker no one knows of. The main thing people are unaware of is the same thing we’ve been taught our entire lives, that hardwork beats talent. There is this magical thought surrounding film, that if we create something great someone with a magical wand will come and strike a million dollar deal in our hands, that’s just not true and its that kind of expectation that crush most filmmakers. There is more to filmmaking than making a film.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m Cory Hunter and I’m a filmmaker, I can be found all over social media @cfhunterr. We’re all fingerprints, unique in our own way, my experiences, interest’s and how I express them is what sets me apart from others. At the moment I’m most excited about a movie I’m working on titled Swiping. It began as a Streaming Series which is streaming on youtube at this very moment. Through the Streaming Series I discovered an amazing cast and crew and we came together, worked hard and now there is a movie in post production. I can chalk up all my success to persistence. The longer you stick in there the more you learn, the more confident you become , the more friends you make, the more your instincts develop and after a while success becomes inevitable. Of course it’s not easy but growth is the main weapon in overcoming challenges. It goes hand and hand to a spiritual journey, its not the challenges that stops us, it’s us. So it all come down to mastering ourselves. We must not allow social media or peers to influence us in a negative way, we must stand up, aspire to be the best version of ourselves and accomplish what we set out to accomplish. As for my brand I want the world to know we’re here to create stories and art that entertain, inspire and reflect us and when I say us I mean all people of all shapes and sizes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in New York City and since the Covid shutdown, I’ve been staying pretty close to home. I’ve never been the going out type. Truth is, it requires a lot of effort and money to hit the night scene every week. Paying excessive fees for entries and ridiculous prices for drinks always rubbed me the wrong way. Perhaps occasionally but not often. If I had a best friend visiting the area and wanted to show him a good time, I would invite my friend to my place. Everything I need is there. Drinks, food and a screen to watch movies. I know it’s a boring lifestyle but I have a old soul. On the other hand if I’m in the middle of a film shoot and a friend was tagging along, we might end up just about anywhere in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m currently working on a project titled Swiping, it’s a movie and it requires a lot of moving parts for it to be accomplished. It’s takes a lot of work, effort, collaboration and goodwill for the completion of this project to be made possible. Therefore I want to shout out my cast and crew. Titles and acknowledgements can never be enough to pinpoint everything they contribute in production. So often we only see the headliners of films but there are so many people tied to every single movie out there, even the ones we don’t like.
