We had the good fortune of connecting with Branden Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Branden, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to be a contribution to the increased representation of black entrepreneurship and beauty through my photography. I want others to remember how empowered and confident I made them feel about themselves. I believe that we all have a story and something special about ourselves, but sometimes we have a hard time letting our light shine due to societal standards and pressures. So if I’m able to reach someone and have a positive impact on them, I’ve been a success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My creative journey began due to a desire of finding an outlet to provide balance with my corporate job. At that time I was working back and forth from Atlanta to D.C., and I always found photography interesting. So one week, went to the store and bought a Nikon D3300 and start taking landscape and cityscape photos. Then I decided to try portraiture by meeting up with one of my friends and take their photos in an antique shop. I must say, my first two years of photography were a struggle because I knew nothing and had to learn everything from scratch. Thank goodness for YouTube University because I watched hours upon hours of tutorials in order to figure things out. One of the biggest lessons I learned was, “Go out and shoot because practice will become your best teacher!” So that is what I’ve been doing for the past 5 years, and it has been a beautiful journey. As MEV Photographie, I want people to know that their brand ‘s story deserves to be told and their special moments should be captured. Whether that moment is you launching your business for the first time, creating a new product, or just releasing new content, we aim to assist in creating the best experience for them and provide amazing photos.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still exploring the city myself, I would definitely have to take them to Ponce City Market to go to Bar Vegan and Bellina Alimentari for some vegan cheesesteaks and Italian food. If you’re looking for an amazing ambiance and aesthetic for drinks & tapas, then The Garden Room is definitely for you. Also, Piedmont Park is always a great place to go for a relaxing social distanced picnic. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my friends who have truly been in my corner and encouraging me along this creative journey. There have been many times where I have been frustrated and almost gave up photography, but they’ve helped me press on. I would also like to thank all of the amazing photographers that I’ve encountered whom I’ve learned from, collaborated with, and fellowshipped with. I’m a firm believer in surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals because iron sharpens iron.
