Meet Michael Watson, CLTC®: Financial Advisor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Watson, CLTC® and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Since I was a kid growing up in the blue-collar city of Ypsilanti, MI, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, and owning my own business was always a dream of mine. I’ve excelled in every job I’ve ever had because I’m a self-motivated, hard worker that does not like ceilings, so naturally, working a 9 to 5 would never cut it for me. I decided to bet on myself and start my own business. I was already in the financial industry as a personal banker, and while there, I realized there was a substantial need for financial education amongst minority communities. I understood that if I continued to educate myself on strategic ways to build lifelong wealth, I would make a difference in these communities by providing financial education as a financial advisor. That’s how Watson Wealth Planning LLC was born.

What should our readers know about your business?
My mission is to be a financial educator. I want to create financial independence through expert guidance and accountability. I want to change the narrative around wealth accumulation and help a thousand families achieve a seven-figure net worth and generational wealth. While working primarily in minority markets, I discovered that building wealth strategically is an area that isn’t normally discussed in households. The key to overcoming this challenge is to break down barriers by building trust. Once trust is built, education will follow. Building wealth is a marathon, not a sprint, and it takes years to achieve. With the knowledge gained, the family’s mindset shifts to a wealth-building mindset.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I graduated from Grambling State University in Louisiana, so I appreciate good ole Cajun delights. I love steak and chicken, but my family and I enjoy Juicy Crab. A local Cajun seafood spot that never disappoints. I typically order a half-pound of snow crab legs and half-pound of shrimp – it does the trick!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d really like to thank God, my family, friends, and clients that believed in me and my vision from the beginning. Without all of them, the journey to educate a thousand households would not be possible. Financial education is something that everyone wants, but it is not always easily accessible. This motivates me to be there for them and pushes me to be the best version of myself daily.
