We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Honestly, it was the simple decision to believe in me. Not just as a business owner and entrepreneur, but also as a person – as a woman. When other people didn’t agree with my decisions, I stood firm. So yes, betting on myself was the most important decision I could’ve ever made!
What should our readers know about your business?
I own Divine Inspirations Hair Salon a professional hair care boutique as well as waxing specialization. What sets me apart is that, I really love what I do, and it shows through my work and conversations. In my industry, it’s so easy to get caught up in the money, but making money is the bonus for me. It’s the restoring self love and self confidence that makes me love what I do most! Of course getting to where I am was not easy. It took a lot of work. Long days and longer nights. I know that sounds cliche, but it was a for real working from the bottom situation. You don’t come into my industry already making money. If you don’t work, you don’t eat. With 10 salons in basically a 1 mile radius, you have to prove yourself! I overcame different challenges with a lot of prayer. Practically, I took classes on business management for my field and I used what I could. Determination and dedication is key. One thing I’ve learned is to stay true to you and your brand. I’ve worked very hard to get to where I am, and I know I’m not where other people may be, but I’m proud of me!!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A weeeeek?!?! That’s so much time lol!! I love good food! Definitely Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks! Then Dave and Buster’s or Andretti because I’m waaaay too competitive. I’m a real low-key kind of person, so I would go to whatever bar and/or lounge has the most low-key environment at the time. If there’s a good concert or live music of some sort I’m sold. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
With God, ALL things are possible! So definitely Big G! Kenneth Jones, my husband!! He put some of his dreams on pause to help me accomplish mine. My babies, sacrificing some time with mommy, so that I can help them have a great life. My family and framily, they hype me up and believe in me, even when I don’t believe in myself!
