Meet Amanda Abernathy: Baker & Treat Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Abernathy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I believe the idea was always there. My love for baking and cooking started being in the kitchen with my mother. I was always intrigued by all the dishes she would create. Out of my mother’s three daughters I was the most interested in learning. While in high school one of my extra curricular activities was Home Economics. That’s where the idea formed to become a pastry chef. During my senior year I applied and was accepted to the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute. Due to funding constraints I didn’t attend. At that time I didn’t believe becoming a Pastry Chef was in my reach. After some years and life happened , my dream was reborn after the birth of my second daughter. I knew I wanted to start a business. Before than I would always cook and bake for my family and friends but never considered a business. My passion for creating again was born when I worked on my own treat table for my second daughters baby shower. My guest raved how everything was great. After the birth of my child while on maternity leave from my full-time, I came across Roshell Ingraham of Your Sweet Connection on YouTube. At that time I learned about her courses and enrolled as a student. Roshell taught me the basis of starting a Treat Business. In March of 2019 I formed 2 Sweet Creations LLC named after my two daughters my two sweet creations. It’s funny how we sometimes lose sight of our passion and dreams. However, if it is your calling it will always come back full circle.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is my unique style, creativity and almost OCD level of attention to details. I put my all into my creations. When a customer receives a product from 2 Sweet Creations, they see the love and care that was put into each item and the level of details and pride to provide for their special occasion. I’m most proud of the joy I bring to my customers when they receive 2 Sweet Creations products. It literally brings me joy to bring joy to others. I’m proud of the growth that has been created in my two years of business. In two years I started with popcorn and within the last year worked my way up to cakes. The chapter that 2 Sweet Creations is currently at came from not giving up and being consistent as one of my previous colleagues would say going through the nasties (obstacles). Being a entrepreneur is definitely not easy it takes grit and tenacity. Overcoming by remembering the reason why you started your business, quick thinking to resolve issues as they arise, seeking out wise counsel and staying connected to the word and God. Remember who you are and whose you are. You have to be your own motivator and remembering who and what you are doing it for, for me it’s my family. Providing quality customer service and being transparent has allowed us to grow by word of mouth. Lessons I have learned always put your best foot forward you never know who is watching. Presentation is everything customers buy with their eyes first so always make your products eye catching. My number one competition is who I was yesterday, never compare yourself to others. Build a tribe that supports you, encourage you and absolutely tells you the truth. Being okay with exactly who I am. As my mentor would say the 3Rs Read, Research and Review, always be a student of your craft. I’m a researcher by nature and it has helped me many of times avoiding pitfalls. At 2 Sweet Creations the goal is to create an experience for our customers. First from customer service, communication, when they receive their products its the packaging to the taste. Always provide quality products from the taste to the total look.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This one is a hard one. Work consumes most of my time. I’m a foodie so I would say breakfast at Thumbs Up Diner or Brunch at Sweet Auburn Seafood. The touristy stuff The Georgia Aquarium and The World of Cocoa Cola. Lunch at JCT Kitchen or Paschal’s. Special Occasion dinner at Sun Dial or Oceanaire.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely believe in giving credit where credit is due. I would like to recognize my mentor Roshell Ingraham for her encouragement, mentorship and support. She is a teacher and giver by nature. Whether she is giving life, helping to build brands and providing her mentees with encouragement and motivation. I have grown as a business woman under her leadership for the last two years along with the YSC academy. My family for their support of my journey. My husband and children for understanding the sacrifice that is put into being a business owner and being my official taste testers. My tribe of trusted friends who provide support and guidance on my journey.
