We had the good fortune of connecting with Golden and Daleesha Cheatom and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Golden and Daleesha, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
There is a misconception that the only way to become successful is to go to college, get a degree, and find a job in your respective field. However, the truth is most college graduates have a tough time landing a position in their career field, and they accumulate tons of debt which in turn never allows some not all of them to reach their greatest potential. This misconception in no way means that we do not value education, but there is a more strategic way to reach success that does not require a college education. For example, Steve Jobs a college drop out created the world’s first trillion dollar company all because he had a vision. We feel as though it is imperative to fulfill your destiny by pursuing your dreams and channeling that energy towards something that you are passionate about.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Golden is a Sr relationship manager at one of the largest financial institutions in the Southeast. My ultimate goal is to assists in building financial confidence with current and potential clients. I am a well-rounded individual with strong interpersonal skills, which has helped me to excel in various areas of my life. One of my greatest accomplishments was gaining licensure as a life agent with my wife. The most profound attribute that sets me apart from others is that I came from humble beginnings. For this reason, I can humbly say that while I did and still continue to put in hard work and dedication, I would not be where I am today without the grace of God. Daleesha’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Clayton State University in Psychology and Human Services. Furthermore, I have a Master’s of Science degree in School Counseling from Mercer University. I am currently a professional school counselor and I have been in education for 7 years. I am a dedicated school counseling professional driven to aid youth in overcoming academic, social, and personal challenges to realize individual strengths and success, defined through the recognition and utilization of ASCA principles. The road was definitely not easy however we appreciate the process more simply because of the obstacles we encountered. We both pushed through the challenges by never giving up and being each others biggest support system. One of the most unique things about our story is that our mission is to educate minorities on the importance of financial literacy. We thrive off helping others build generational wealth and taking the necessary steps to become successful entrepreneurs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are tons of exciting activities to partake in on a week long vacation in Atlanta, Ga. The Real Milk & Honey, Highland Bakery, and Gocha’s Breakfast Bar are a few of the top choices to choose from if you’re looking to enjoy a nice brunch with mimosas. Atlanta is also known for having a number of great tourist attractions which include but are not limited to, Atlanta Botanical Garden, The World of Coca-Cola, and The Georgia Aquarium.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We give all the honor and glory to God for bringing two like minded individuals together who knew that our ultimate goal was to become financially free and build a legacy for our family. Nonetheless, this journey has allowed us to encounter some awesome mentors that have shared their knowledge and expertise to help us evolve into the entrepreneurs we are today. To be specific, Marlos Lovejoy and Donnie Glover are two individuals who play an integral role in our continued success. These two individuals have guided us with their outstanding mentorship and they have been dedicated to helping us win.
