We had the good fortune of connecting with Temika Boucaud and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Temika, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought behind ‘My Own Kind of Beautiful’ (pronounced M.O.K.O.B.) was to create a community where women are celebrated for their inner beauty and all that defines them. A group of women not afraid to stand out and represent their OWN kind of beautiful. We live in a society where everything is based on likes, but the truth is that most women don’t even like themselves. Creating a community where women have the freedom to encourage and empower each other was crucial to me. There’s nothing more powerful than a woman that has rebuilt herself. MOKOB serves as a constant reminder to always show up as your best self and encourage the women next to you. Issa is movement!

What should our readers know about your business?
MOKOB is not only a brand, it’s a movement!! It’s everything of what defines you! Beauty is truly subjective. I want women everywhere to use the hashtag (#MOKOB) when you’re feeling like your baddest self. Use the hashtag to admire another woman’s beauty and join a social group of women encouraging each other to be their best! MOKOB offers a product line to further compliment your beauty with leather patched hats, t-shirts and a growing favorite waistbeads! All of our messages on our shirts are chosen specifically to empower women. What sets MOKOB apart from any other brand is our ability to cater to both the “Classy” and more “Edgy” personalities of a woman. Our pieces are designed to be able to dress them ‘up’ or ‘down’ depending on their mood. We are excited about the expansion of our product line in the near future. Our social engagement is growing and becoming an intricate part of our marketing and social influence.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The love and support from my closest friends and family had been nothing short of amazing! They have been there in the best ways possible and I am truly blessed to have them by my side, but my mom and my kids have been my driving force!
