We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Briana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When it comes to risk taking Im one of those people who standby the quote “no risk no reward” When you really think about it majority of the choices we make as adults are risks for example: buying a house, going back to school, buying a used car, starting a new job, getting into a new relationship, starting a business etc.. i believe if you don’t take risks you don’t grow. Taking risks plays a significant role in my life and business as well. I’ve been in business for almost 4 years now and that’s became a risk and a gamble because the thing about being an entrepreneur is sometimes you honestly just don’t know where to start, what to do, and what risk to take your just stepping out on faith and a vision. . the more my business has grown I can say I’ve gotten a lot better about analyzing what risk to take and which ones aren’t worth it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pretty in Glam cosmetics started off in Detroit Michigan in 2016 as a home made cruelty free nail polish line but by 2017 it grew into a full cruelty free cosmetic brand. I began getting more popular by having quality products, girly flirty, fun, wild names, and the fact that my nail polish bottles are shaped like bows. Nothing about Pretty in Glam is basic.. A fun girly luxury brand with affordable prices you cant you beat that! I love to engage with my audience and post things to encourage them, post memes that will make them laugh, give them polls to do, get to know them etc.. and I believe those are a few things that sets my brand apart from other cosmetic brands. Staring Pretty in Glam wasn’t extremely hard to me because it was something I always wanted to do since a little girl but I will say it’s not always easy. Sometimes I‘ll get in these moods and get sad because I’ll feel like I lost my motivation or I’m not going hard enough I’ll cry, I’ll get frustrated but I’ll look at old pics see my growth, turn on my nipsey hussle & gospel mix, call my mom for advice, and and get right back into “beast mode” that’s what I call it when I’m 100% focused and I feel like nothing or nobody can get in the way of me growing Pretty in Glam even more. One thing I’m super excited about and feel like its one of my biggest accomplishments is that Pretty in Glam will be in Beautycon 2020! I went last year as a guest and loved every bit of it but this year I’m going as a brand to me that’s huge and I won’t even lie I brag on that lmbo like do you know who i am girl bye my brand in the beautycon this year you can’t tell me nothing lol but seriously though I’m extremely honored and proud of myself and can’t wait for it!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I would take her downtown of course, the motown museum, I’m a foodie so more than likely we’re going to try new hot spots and places to eat lol brunch at 24 Grille on Sunday because it’s my favorite brunch spot .. maybe a few social bars or so.. I’m really a homebody so i don’t know much about the night life
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout two people who’s been by my side since the very beginning of Pretty in Glam! My mom and my best friend both of them are my BIGGEST cheerleaders their both ALWAYS there for me. My mom is the first person who ever believed in my dreams, she’s the one who gives me the best business advice and keeps me motivated whenever I felt like giving up or when I would feel like things aren’t paying off as quickly as they should be.. learn to be patient, have faith and trust God is what she always says to me. My best fiend Janey has been my rock literally and I don’t even think she realizes the impact she’s had on Pretty in Glam. I appreciate her so much! Whenever I have a show, appearance, or event she’s there! and she’s the one making sure everything is running correctly and I mean EVERYTHING lol I honestly owe her the world ( I’m going to give it to her soon) she’s been a great supporter, friend, and help. I”ll never forget this one event I had she was so into it she might even have worked harder than me that day lol I had to stop what I was doing and watched her smiling and she caught me and she looked up and said to me “I can’t wait until you blow up so we can do things like this all the time” and that meant everything to me because I know for a FACT she’s got my back through this journey. She might not even remember that day but i’ll never forget it because it meant so much to me.
