We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Hanna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, how do you think about risk?
I personally believe that life is all about taking risks. It’s about having courage and facing the fears of uncertainty to achieve goals. I have been taking risks from the beginning of my career to now and no matter the outcome, I’ve grown through the process and gained an extra boost of confidence each time. Many of us, creatives especially, are afraid to take risk due to the thought of failure but it surely improves the chances of a successful future. Being just an island boy born and raised in The Bahamas, I’ve photographed and collaborated with a great number faces/brands that may have seemed impossible and for that I am proud. I take risk because I’ve learnt that you’ll never know until you try.Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a beauty, pop and lifestyle Photographer who’s also passionate about film and creative directing. I was inspired by hit show America’s Next Top Model at the age of 16 to begin photography. I admired the show for its creativity… mainly the photoshoot concepts that always seemed to blow me away. My love for the art goes deep and that alone sets me apart from others on top of having my own photographic style that when seen, my work is recognizable. To be completely honest, I’m most proud of my mentorship. There are a number of young aspiring photographers that I provide guidance for and assist. It is a most definitely a blessing to be able to share your gifts and talents with others that share the same passion. I pride myself on being humble and that’s been the key to where I am today! In March of 2019, I thought my career had came to a complete stop when my car was broken into and all my camera gear stolen. I was unable to shoot for a month! Thankfully, with the help of my supporters I was able to replace most of my stolen equipment, got back on my feet and right into the game again. This was a major obstacle that I hope no creative has to experience. From the beginning of my career to now, I’ve learnt that resilience, confidence and being true to yourself is so ideal. In addition, humility and teaching others along the way. I am still unsure of where my career path will take me, however I have strong belief in an even greater future for this island boy.Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Firstly, I’ll admit that I am big on planning and ensuring that everything is perfect although most times that’s impossible haha! Nonetheless, I love a good time. My best friend is the complete opposite of me though. He is extremely simple… for the day time, a few visits to the mall, fast food and in the evening.. clubs and bar hopping. I’ve just recently moved to the city so I am not 100% on many places but I have a few favorites that I’ve experienced. To eat: Benihanas & 5Church, to drink: The Sivas and Cirque and for a good time: again The Sivas and BLU.Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, friends and followers. They have literally all been the driving force in my career and without them, I am not sure where I’d be today. It is so important today to surround yourself with positive and trustworthy people that not only care about your work/career but also you as a human being. People that will support you at your highs and lows. People that will celebrate all of your achievements no matter how big or small. I love my support system and I am truly grateful that God has gifted me with them.
