We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Montaque and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, what is the most important factor behind your success?
GREAT customer service! This has to be top tier when having a small, black-owned business. Being that my company thrives off of referrals, it is imperative that I set the tone for whoever takes a seat in my chair, because my next potential client could very well be connected to them. Thankfully, I have been told from numerous clients, both old and new, that my customer service is what keeps them coming back, in addition to having a great experience while booking, asking questions prior to, or phsycially getting their hair done.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To be completely transparent, I’m continuously finding my niche as a creative, every single day. The determination behind exploring my gifts and passions is what sets me apart from a lot of people. I believe there is no limit to what I can do. No cap at all. If I set my mind out to achieve something, it is my destiny to fulfill that thing. This is how Crowned By Ash was created too! I experimented, I tested, I did trials and had errors, until hair became a passion for me; something I never wanted to stop learning. No, it wasn’t easy. Even now, it’s still not easy, But nothing in this world worth fighting for comes easy. The challeneges I’ve faced being a small business owner are overcome by prayer and perserverence. I can do nothing without God. He gave me these gifts, so I cast all my cares and worries onto him. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is that NEW lessons come everyday. Being a business owner, you encounter so many things that you’d never know how to handle if you weren’t in that position, so take every lesson as an opportunity to make beneficial changes or go even harder the next time around! I want the world to know that Crowned By Ash is just the beginning.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m still getting to know the city, so I can’t really answer these as of yet.
