Meet Ayden Dion

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayden Dion and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ayden, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Failure is simply not an option for me. Every tournament I complete brings valuable lessons and obstacles that I conquer. Whether I win or lose, I embrace those experiences to fuel my growth and ensure I’m even better for the next challenge.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My passion for sports began around the age of four. I was extremely active, primarily in baseball, and became the lead pitcher by the time I was five. My involvement in baseball eventually led to an incredible opportunity to be featured in a Nike commercial honoring Hank Aaron, a profound historical figure, which I was extremely grateful for.
In addition to baseball, my parents would often take me bowling, which further fueled my passion. Those around me noticed the high scores I was achieving, and they would tell my parents that my accomplishments at such a young age could lead to a potential career in the sport.
Fast forward a few years: while bowling with my parents, a professional bowler approached us, impressed with my performance. They asked my parents if I was part of a professional league and encouraged them to consider that path for me, helping to shape my journey today. My first tournament was very challenging, as I was competing against elite bowlers from across the country. I found it intimidating, which affected my self-esteem and performance. However, my parents reminded me that facing obstacles is a part of greatness and that I could learn from these experiences, just like in baseball.
My determination, passion, and competitiveness kept me motivated. I practiced every day for up to four hours, learning about the best bowling balls for different oil patterns and the optimal technique to hit the sweet spot for strikes.
This relentless dedication led to numerous victories, including scholarship funding and recognition online.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I would take him to my favorite bowling spots, which offer different variations, including duckpin bowling. This variation of ten-pin bowling uses smaller, lighter pins and a softball-sized ball (typically 3–4 lbs) with no finger holes. Originating around 1900, duckpin bowling is more challenging than traditional bowling, as players get three attempts per frame to knock down all ten pins, making it quite intriguing. After bowling, we would enjoy some arcade games, go racing in go-karts, and have pizza.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this heartfelt message to my incredibly supportive parents. Their unwavering belief in me has truly paved the way for my success. Through countless hours of encouragement, they instilled in me a sense of confidence and determination.
They took on the roles of mentors and coaches, guiding me every step of the way. From early morning practices to late-night tournaments, they have been there, traveling long distances to ensure I had every opportunity to excel. Their commitment to my dreams has been nothing short of remarkable.
I am profoundly grateful for their sacrifices, love, and support. Thanks to their dedication, I have reached milestones I once thought were out of reach. I could not have come this far without them, and I am eternally thankful for everything they’ve done.
