We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Boateng, MSN, APRN, CPNP-PC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janet, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At its core, Lumené Newborn Concierge exists to make the transition home with a new baby feel less overwhelming and more supported. While newborns receive excellent care in the hospital, many families leave with questions, concerns, and a long list of adjustments ahead of them. My goal is to bridge that gap by bringing expert newborn care directly into the home during those critical first days after discharge.

By providing in-home newborn wellness visits, feeding assessments, weight checks, jaundice screenings, and parent education, I help families access care in a way that is convenient, personalized, and unhurried. This allows parents to focus on recovery, bonding, and building confidence as they settle into life with their newborn.

Beyond the clinical care itself, I believe Lumené contributes to the community by helping families feel seen, supported, and empowered. When parents feel confident caring for their baby, it can positively impact the well-being of the entire family.

I am also passionate about collaborating with other professionals who support growing families, including pediatricians, lactation consultants, doulas, therapists, and postpartum providers. Building strong community connections allows families to access the resources they need and creates a more supportive network for parents and newborns.

My hope is that Lumené not only improves the newborn experience for individual families but also helps reshape how we think about postpartum and newborn support—making compassionate, family-centered care more accessible during one of life’s most important transitions.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a board-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and my career has always centered around caring for children and supporting families during some of life’s most important transitions. Throughout my career, I have worked in pediatric primary care, pediatric inpatient care, and newborn nursery settings, giving me the opportunity to care for children from their very first days of life through adolescence.

What sets me apart is my passion for creating meaningful connections with families. While providing excellent medical care is essential, I’ve always believed that parents need more than a checklist of instructions—they need reassurance, education, and someone who takes the time to listen.

That belief ultimately led me to create Lumené Newborn Concierge, an in-home newborn wellness service serving families throughout North Atlanta. The idea was born from seeing how challenging those first days at home can be. New parents are often expected to pack up a newborn just days after delivery for an appointment when they are still recovering, learning to feed their baby, and adjusting to life as a family. I wanted to create a different experience—one that brings expert newborn care directly into the home.

The journey to this point has not always been easy. Building a business while working as a nurse practitioner, raising a family, and navigating the uncertainties that come with entrepreneurship has required a great deal of faith, persistence, and patience. There have been moments of excitement and moments of doubt, but each challenge has reinforced the importance of staying committed to a mission that truly serves others.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that meaningful work often requires courage. Sometimes you have to step away from what feels comfortable and trust yourself enough to build something new. I’ve also learned that success isn’t always measured by how quickly things happen but by the impact you’re able to make along the way.

One of the accomplishments I am most proud of is launching Lumené Newborn Concierge. As a healthcare provider, starting a business was completely outside of my comfort zone. I had to learn everything from branding and marketing to operations and entrepreneurship while continuing to care for patients and support my family. Seeing the vision come to life and hearing families share how much they value having newborn care delivered in the comfort of their home has been incredibly rewarding.

What I want people to know about me and about Lumené is that everything was built with families in mind. My goal has never been simply to provide a service. It is to create a space where parents feel supported, informed, and confident as they begin their journey with a new baby. Those first days matter, and every family deserves care that feels personal, compassionate, and unhurried.

For me, this work is about more than healthcare—it is about helping families feel seen, supported, and cared for during one of the most transformative seasons of their lives.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I would definitely spend a lot of time exploring North Atlanta. One of my favorite places is Avalon in Alpharetta. It has a great mix of shopping, restaurants, and outdoor spaces, making it easy to spend an entire afternoon walking around, grabbing coffee, and enjoying the atmosphere.

For dinner, I love finding restaurants that offer a great experience in addition to great food. Some of my favorite outings involve dressing up and enjoying a nice meal with family or friends. After dinner, we’d stroll around Avalon or nearby downtown Alpharetta, which has a charming mix of local shops, boutiques, and gathering spaces.

Since I have two young boys, many of my favorite spots are family-friendly. We’d spend time at Halcyon, Cumming City Center, and the Alpharetta Greenway, which are great places to walk, relax, and enjoy the community. I also enjoy supporting local businesses and attending events that bring families together.

If we ventured into Atlanta, I would recommend visiting the Atlanta Botanical Garden, exploring the BeltLine, and enjoying one of the city’s many incredible restaurants. Atlanta has a unique ability to offer both a vibrant city experience and welcoming family-centered communities.

What I love most about this area is that there is truly something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a great meal, beautiful outdoor spaces, boutique shopping, or family-friendly activities, North Atlanta offers a wonderful balance of all of it. It’s one of the reasons my family and I love calling this area home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to give glory to God. My faith has been an anchor throughout every season of my life and career, and I truly believe His guidance has carried me through opportunities, challenges, and moments of uncertainty.

I also want to recognize my husband, whose unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in both my personal and professional journey. Starting a business while balancing a career and family responsibilities is not something I could have done alone. His belief in me has often helped me push forward when things felt difficult.

My mother deserves tremendous credit as well. She instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and compassion—qualities that have shaped who I am as a healthcare provider and entrepreneur.

I am also incredibly grateful for my best friend, who has been a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, and support throughout the years. Having someone in your corner who believes in your dreams is a gift I never take for granted.

Finally, I want to thank my two sons. They may not fully realize it yet, but they have witnessed every step of this journey—the late nights, the planning, the excitement, and the challenges. They inspire me every day to pursue meaningful work and to build something that makes a positive impact on the lives of others.

None of us achieve success entirely on our own. I am deeply grateful for the people who have supported, encouraged, and believed in me along the way.
