Meet Kiara Monae Johnson-Mathurin | Founder of Becoming Sisterhood | Writer & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiara Monae Johnson-Mathurin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiara Monae, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career because creativity became an outlet for both healing and connection. As a writer, content creator, and community leader, I’ve seen how powerful storytelling can be. Sharing my experiences, faith, and journey through motherhood has allowed me to encourage others and remind people they are not alone. What began as a way to express myself grew into a calling to create meaningful content that inspires, challenges, and brings people closer to one another. For me, creativity is not just about making something beautiful. It’s about making an impact.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the founder of Becoming Sisterhood, a faith based community dedicated to helping women pursue Christ through discipleship, accountability, and authentic relationships. What sets my work apart is that it was born from personal experience. There was a time in my life when I desperately needed community, mentorship, and women who would point me back to Jesus. When I couldn’t find what I was looking for, God placed it on my heart to build it.
My journey has not been traditional. I became a mother at a young age, spent years navigating the demands of raising three children, and walked through seasons of hardship, uncertainty, and personal transformation. Those experiences taught me that our stories are not obstacles to our purpose, they are often the very thing God uses to shape it.
Today, through Becoming Sisterhood, writing, and content creation, I have the privilege of encouraging women to draw closer to Christ and reminding them that they do not have to walk alone. What I am most proud of is not a title or accomplishment, but the lives that have been impacted through obedience. Watching women grow in their faith, find genuine community, and experience God’s faithfulness has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.
If there is one thing I want people to know about my story, it is that God can use anyone. He specializes in redemption. Some of the very things I once carried with shame have become the foundation of my testimony and the means by which I can encourage others. My life and work are living proof that God is able to take broken pieces and create something beautiful for His glory.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to Atlanta for a week, we’d spend most of our time exploring the places that feel like home to me. We’d start with sushi at Fudo because it truly has some of the best sushi I’ve ever had and sushi is one of my favorite foods. We’d also spend an afternoon walking the BeltLine. I love how it brings together so many different cultures, people, artists, and local businesses. It feels like the heartbeat of Atlanta.
For a slower day, I’d take them to Sweetwater Creek. As a mom of three and someone who values quiet moments with the Lord, I love being near the water and on the trails. It’s one of those places that reminds you to slow down and breathe.
On Sunday, we’d start the morning at 2819, my home church. It has played such a significant role in my walk with Christ and has become a place of genuine community for my family. After church, we’d stop by Buji for a matcha because there are few things I enjoy more than a good matcha and good conversation.
I’d also make time for a hot mat Pilates class because movement has become such an important part of my wellness journey. More than anything, I think the beauty of Atlanta is found in its people. It’s a city full of creativity, diversity, culture, and opportunity. Whether you’re exploring a trail, sharing a meal, worshipping on a Sunday morning, or walking the BeltLine, there’s always something that makes you feel connected to the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, my shoutout belongs to God. Every opportunity, every lesson, and every bit of growth in my life is a reflection of His grace. I also want to recognize my husband, Nick, who has walked beside me through every season. He has supported my dreams, carried our family through difficult moments, believed in me when I doubted myself, and continually pointed me back to Christ. I am grateful to do life with someone who encourages me to become all that God has called me to be. I also want to honor my three children. Motherhood has stretched me, refined me, and taught me more about love, sacrifice, and dependence on God than I ever could have imagined. My children inspire me daily, and so much of what I create is rooted in the desire to leave them a legacy of faith. Finally, I am incredibly grateful for the women of Becoming Sisterhood. Their prayers, encouragement, and friendship have been a tangible expression of God’s faithfulness in my life. My story is proof that we were never meant to walk alone.
