Meet Rosanna Penaflorida: Birth and Lifestyle Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosanna Penaflorida and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rosanna, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I am fortunate not only to be able to photograph families but to truly connect with them on a deeper level even from behind the camera and know their story. A part of my mission as a photographer is to give back to the community to non-profit organizations and help raise awareness. Some of the organizations I give back to are Cure CP, which funds research and provides resources to people with cerebral palsy; the Frazer Center, which helps children and adults with developmental disabilities live and flourish in a more inclusive community; Give Specific, which directly serves in solving an immediate economic or social issues; and Healthy Mothers and Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia, which improves maternal and infant health through advocacy, education, and access to vital resources. I believe that the work I do is to always serve others.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from other photographers and birth photographers is that I serve others with a purpose (#pictureswithapurpose) – I serve families and non-profit organizations. With families, I try to really connect with them and listen to them. For me, I never treat a client as a transaction. It’s the family that I’ve built a relationship with. Sometimes I share my vulnerable stories and we have a bond that has carried us through the years. That’s what I love! I have grown and photographed with families for nearly a decade and I get to cherish those family milestones with them. With all of my sessions, I help non-profit organizations by donating and raising awareness. One of the organizations I’ve recently become passionate about is Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia. Their mission is to improve maternal and infant health through advocacy, education, and access to vital resources. Getting to where I am in my business was not easy. I am naturally wired to envision steps and procedures – all things logistics – to continue to run my business successfully. There was a lot of trial and error. When I failed, I had to fail fast and move on to succeed. When I had a challenge, I made sure I leaned on my circle of mentors to help guide me through it. When I didn’t know something, I educated myself with books, courses, conferences, podcasts, and more to stay on the right path. Because when it is your business, no one is going to care about it more than you. If there is one thing that I want the world to know about Pena Rose Studios is that our purpose and mission is to serve others by capturing and documenting family milestones such as births, weddings, and families. We serve others in order to do good work for others. That will never change.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Downtown Roswell is one of my favorite spots in the metro-Atlanta area. And it’s only a few minutes from my place! If I had a special visitor from out of town, one of my favorite spots to take them would be Crazy Love Coffee house to breakfast, then do a little shopping at Linen and Flax and lunch at Lola’s Tequila Bar. We would walk around and tour the nearby historical sites like Barrington Hall and Roswell Mill for a history lesson and end the evening with dinner and drinks at Whiskey Project and Blue Door at Le Bistro. If the stay were longer, I would want to take them to stay at a villa at Montaluce Winery and tour some wineries up there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, my family and my mentors have truly helped pave the way on my journey. My family has helped me with several shoots, been beside me during post-processing, and so supportive in every step of the way. All of my mentors have also guided in technical, business, and leadership perspectives. They pushed me to go outside of my comfort zone in order to succeed. For all of them, I am truly grateful.
