Meet Kious Dabney

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kious Dabney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kious, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risk is having confidence. I owe a lot of my success to having confidence in my ability to do anything I put my mind to. I’ve opened many doors by being confident in my ability which has led me to a fruitful life. One of my biggest success was getting to intern as a photographer & designer for my college because I would constantly ask the campus photographers to be a second hand.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It started in junior & senior highschool -Elite Scholars Academy. I started taking pictures on my iPhone 7 plus when portrait mode popping and I was hooked since. I was taking pictures of everything from friends, flowers, cars, landscapes, then I bought my first DLSR camera- a red Nikon D3400. I started taking pictures for the school and some pictures even got into my senior yearbook. After graduation, I attended Jacksonville State University-to study graphic design and marketing- where I met other creatives and learned about marketing. This is when I started exploring different forms of photography- automotive, sports, portraits. Since graduating university I’ve been doing with automotive photography and real estate marketing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place im taking an ATLlien is to get good wings & fries- doesnt matter where, my spots are valid. Then Id take them to either a car show to the High Museum, depending on the friend. I enjoy riding bikes downtown so well do that too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Safari Manning, she helped me start my marketing journey and has been my rock for 6 years going. She’s allowed me to focus more on my craft (designing, photography, editing etc.) by taking on other business roles for me.
