We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Andrena Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Andrena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business wasn’t just a decision it was a calling. I reached a point in my life where I knew I was built for more than just clocking in and out. I wanted to create something meaningful, something that reflected my values, my passion, and my purpose. I had a vision to empower others, especially women, to rise above limitations, walk in confidence, and own their greatness.

The thought process was simple: If not now, then when? I was tired of playing small and dimming my light. I saw a gap where people needed real transformation not just surface level change, but deep, soul shifting growth. And I knew I had the heart, the experience, and the voice to be that change. So I stepped out on faith, backed it up with strategy, and committed to showing up every day with boldness, grit, and grace. I didn’t wait to feel “ready,” I decided to become ready by moving. And that’s what building a business is all about believing in your vision even before the world can see it.

I built my business with intention to be a safe space where breakthroughs happen, where healing begins, and where purpose is reignited. I knew I wasn’t just creating a brand I was building a legacy. One that would inspire the next woman to know that her story matters, her voice is powerful, and her dreams are valid. I wanted to be proof that you can rise from your pain, rebuild from your past, and still become everything you were destined to be. My business is more than income it’s impact. And every step I take forward, I take with the women behind me in mind because when I rise, we all rise.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, KeepMovinWithAndrena LLC, was birthed from a place of purpose, passion, and perseverance. It’s not just a brand it’s a movement. I specialize in helping women and organizations walk in their power, overcome mental roadblocks, and rise confidently in both life and leadership. Through transformational speaking, master life strategies, and real conversations that spark change, I’ve built a business that creates safe spaces for growth, healing, and elevation.

What sets my business apart is the heart behind the work. I don’t just coach I connect. I don’t just speak I shift atmospheres. My journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to fight through self-doubt, loss, and the weight of starting over more than once. But I kept showing up. I kept trusting the vision even when the results weren’t instant. I built this business with sweat, tears, prayer, and a whole lot of faith. And that’s what makes it powerful it’s real, it’s raw, and it’s rooted in transformation.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the impact. Watching women come in one way and leave with clarity, confidence, and courage to pursue their purpose that’s the win for me. I’ve learned that business is not about perfection—it’s about progression. It’s about listening to your calling, being obedient even when it’s uncomfortable, and remembering that purpose doesn’t quit, even when you feel like giving up.

What I want the world to know is this: I’m not here just to build a brand I’m here to build legacy. My story is proof that your past doesn’t disqualify your purpose. My brand is a reminder that no matter what you’ve been through, you still have the power to rise, to lead, and to live boldly. Keep movin’ because your breakthrough is on the other side of your persistence.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to town, we wouldn’t just hang out we’d create moments. The kind that you talk about years later with a smile on your face and joy in your heart. I’d take her on a journey that speaks to every part of who we are as women fun, fierce, and full of life.

We’d start with good food and even better conversation somewhere we can laugh out loud, reflect on life, and pour into each other like we always do. There’d be time for self-care too a spa experience that helps us release the weight of the world and just be. We’d explore art, culture, and places that tell powerful stories, because I’m all about surrounding myself with inspiration.

There would be music and dancing because when women come together in joy, something magical happens. We’d let our hair down, feel the beat, and move like we’re shaking off every doubt, fear, and limit. We’d dance not just for fun, but for freedom.

We’d spend time in nature, catching our breath, talking about our dreams, and reminding each other of how far we’ve come. There would be wine, soul-filled moments, and lots of pictures to capture the glow. And of course, we’d support local gems, especially Black-owned businesses, because celebrating community is part of the experience.

At the end of the trip, I’d make sure she left full full of laughter, love, clarity, peace, and a fresh reminder of just how powerful and worthy she is. Because that’s what real sisterhood is about. It’s not just about showing someone the city it’s about making them feel seen, loved, and alive while they’re here.

I believe in living life to the fullest, unapologetically even turning lemons into the best lemonade ever.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely because nobody gets to the top alone. First and foremost, God gets the highest praise. Without Him, I could not be. Every open door, every healed wound, every opportunity to lead and serve it’s all because of His grace, guidance, and favor.

Next, family. The ones who stood beside me through the highs and lows, who never let me forget my strength, and who constantly reminded me of my worth. Especially my children and my beautiful granddaughter they are the heartbeat behind my why. Their love and resilience fuel everything I do.

I also have to give flowers to my genuine friends the ones who held space for me when I needed it most, who reminded me of who I was when I forgot, and who loved me through my growth. You know the kind of friends who don’t compete, they clap those are the ones who deserve to be celebrated.

To the phenomenal mentors, coaches, and colleagues who poured into me thank you. Your wisdom, your challenges, and your belief in my calling lit a fire in me that still burns bright. You showed me that excellence requires discipline, consistency, and heart. You called out the leader in me before I could see it for myself, and you never let me settle for average. Your voices echo in the background of every major step I take.

And to my clients and consumers thank you for repeatedly calling me your forever coach, for trusting me to walk alongside you, for allowing me to speak into your lives, and for giving me the opportunity to speak at events that matter. Your consistent referrals, your unwavering support, and the seeds you plant into my vision mean the world to me. It’s an honor to be part of your transformation journey. You don’t just work with me—you walk with me. And that connection is priceless.

Lastly, I must recognize every painful moment, every closed door, and every hard “no” because those were also teachers. I turned them into power moves. This journey is a reflection of God’s grace and the love of the people who walked with me. So this shoutout is for the whole tribe seen and unseen because I stand on the shoulders of greats. Because they tell me I am great too, and they’ve reminded me that I was born to rise, lead, and leave a legacy.
