Meet April T. Harrison

We had the good fortune of connecting with April T. Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi April T., what do you attribute your success to?
There so many factors that play a role in my success, one of which is my resilience. As a breast cancer survivor and advocate, overcoming the challenges I experienced when I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer, the subsequent chemotherapy and bilateral mastectomy where they removed both of my breasts, seemed insurmountable. I was often sick from the side effects of the chemo, I lost all of my hair and ultimately my confidence. Before I could finish chemo, my father passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack. I felt as though I’d lost it all. I grieved a life I thought I was supposed to have. The one thing I had not lost was my resilience. In business, just like in life, you must be resilient enough to withstand adversity and use challenges to your advantage. Leverage your strengths and come back stronger. And that’s what I did, I didn’t allow what I felt were the worst possible things that could ever happen to me take me down. Instead I use it to lift me up, be strategic, be prepared, and be authentic. Sharing my story is the most important factor to my success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The cost of not locking in is spending the rest of your life clocking in! What I’ve learned is to master your craft. I have been a licensed real estate agent for 15 years, I was not successful all 15 years because I was not locked in. I worked another job some years, I didn’t do real estate at all some years. I did get additional licensing to enhance my financial and business acumen and it has made me a well-rounded financial professional. I had to sacrifice some time in doing so. I had to study a little bit later in the office when I was studying for my Series 6 license because I had to go pick up my kids from school and come back to the office until I was done. I had to take a licensing exam 2 weeks after I gave birth one year. I had to give up things most people wouldn’t give up in order to get in doors most people will never go through. If you feel strongly about your business or idea, write the vision, make it plain, then execute. What sets me apart from others is I never give up. I have not let anything stop me. Even if it takes me longer, my reputation, my business plan, and my mindset are in tact.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My idea of a good time would be first to show you the “Forever I Love Atlanta” exhibit by Shannon McCollum at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center where you will get the opportunity to be immersed in “Old Atlanta” nostalgia and learn respect for the city. Then I’d take you to Atrium in Ponce City Market, you can get a great wagyu burger and do a bit of shopping as well. Then let’s stop by Castleberry hill for new art exhibits, down home southern comfort food at Pascal’s and minutes away from Mercedes Benz Stadium. Where we can take a quick trip down Peter’s St. and visit Nina Baldwin and Miya Bailey’s Black-owned art exhibits. Well stop for a bite to eat at 2 Chainz’ Esco Restaurant. Next we can stop by Chattahoochee Works and walk a pet at the dog park, grab a cannabis infused soda, or watch a cult classic movie on the outside big screen. Lastly, I’d take you to the Beltline for a scenic view of the city and to get your steps in, and lastly end the night at the world famous Royal Peacock. It’s the only place left with Old Atlanta vibes. Speaking of “Old Atlanta” vibes, I would implore you to visit @foreveriloveatlanta_radio. It is my personal podcast previously featured on Hits 92.3 internet radio and we are now independent. If you miss the Old Atlanta and want to hear the gems I have to share please tune in on livestream via Facebook and Instagram!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my husband for taking on a caretaker role in a tumultuous time in our lives and continuing to support my business goals and ideas. I would like to acknowledge Rodney Patterson who instilled hard work, dedication and true work ethic in me as an army veteran, telecommunications engineer and amazing father. He is the RP in HA|RP Realty. I would also like to thank all of my past, present and future clients who believed in me and trust me enough to work with me for a lifetime.
