Meet Tayla Lowe | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tayla Lowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tayla, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
The option to give up seems to always be presenting itself, in many different forms. Whether the lack of time or resources, the amount of times we’ve relocated, or our “big” family with all that it entails… giving up is the reasonable choice. However, being an artist isn’t something one can easily walk away from, the desire to keep creating remains. Over the last 15+ years, I have adopted the phrase “slow and steady wins the race” and applied it to several areas of my life: the art of mothering, homeschooling, and photography. I have built my business slowly over the years, while simultaneously raising our babies, without experiencing total burnout. The freedom of being able to work from home, create my own hours, and still be with our children is the gift that keeps on giving. This is why I choose to keep going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Born and raised in Georgia, and after many attempts to escape, still residing in North Georgia [happily] with my husband and our six children and two dogs! I have a background in high fashion editorial work, as the one in front of the camera. This unique type of work allowed me to travel abroad for a couple of years, opening my eyes to the power of photography, light and posing. My camera(Canon Rebel, IYKYK) at the time became a way of documenting life on the road, while the artist inside started to come to life.
It all started in 2008 when I was asked to second shoot for a friends wedding, at the time this was quite the honor! This evolved into me photographing many of our friends engagements, weddings, and any of their little additions over the years following. For the last decade I’ve honed in on families, spending larger amounts of time with them, with a goal of capturing personalities in a relaxed setting. Relying heavily on word of mouth referrals from happy clients is what grew my hobby into a small business.
Today, I would say I specialize in lifestyle and portrait photography, with a secret love for photojournalism. I love knowing the moments captured are forever frozen in time, ones that some may even considered an heirloom one day. Being chosen and then trusted with the job of creating art for families continues to be an honor and a gift.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my, this is a challenging one for someone who doesn’t get out much these days. Can I get one of my fun friends to answer?! 😉
If anything, I’ll share a couple favorite restaurants. Fish Thyme in Acworth is divine. Main Street Cuisine in Cartersville we recently tried and were pleasantly surprised! Noble and Main Coffee in Downtown Cartersville–a hot spot for years now. And Cafe Coco in downtown Acworth, owned by two lovely sisters, including a stellar coffee shop inside their Hippie Kids boutique.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love dedicate my shoutout to Amy Smithwick. Amy has many art forms! She is a small business owner(www.smithwickhouse.com), web designer, talented opera singer, and incredible friend. Her constant encouragement over the years has been the “push” i’ve needed to keep going. Amy is always creating and always ready to almost anything “for the sake of ART”.
